WASH Officer

Background

The Lutheran World Federation/ World Service (LWF/WS) was established in South Sudan 1998 and strives to provide humanitarian assistance (emergency/relief, rehabilitation and development work) to refugees and other vulnerable communities to enable them meet their basic human rights and needs in line with its vision and mission statements, and core values. The activities of LWF/WS include education, child protection, food security, emergency, community protection and capacity building of local authorities and community members.

LWF/WS has worked in Maban County since September 2012 and currently is the service provider for Education and Child Protection in Yousif Batil, Gendrassa and Kaya refugee camps. LWF seek to recruit a suitable candidate for the following positon. The recruited candidate will be based in Maban Upper Nile.

Contract type: Fixed term with possibility of extension depend on funding & performance

Employment start date: ASAP

Job Roles:

The WASH Officer ensures that water, sanitation, and hygiene project, and awareness are implemented effectively, professionally, and in accordance with the culture and practices of the refugee communities, government as well as according to WASH cluster and Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) of LWF.

WASH Programming

§ Ensuring quality and integrity of implementation, including adherence to technical guidelines, administrative systems, and established deadlines.

§ Design; execute all the WASH and other construction related facilities / infrastructures in schools, community and institutions in the refugee camps

§ Training community, Water User Committee, WASH clubs in schools and organize hygiene promotion campaign and competition.

§ Assisting in the preparation of the WASH proposals.

§ Preparing the activity plan and monitoring and evaluation system for the project

§ Analysing the baseline study data to determine the underlining needs of the beneficiaries

§ Undertaking staff capacity building in hygiene promotion activities and conducting assessments.

§ Contributing to contingency planning for possible WASH emergency response as may be required.

§ Work closely with the local community structures in
the camp to promote good hygiene and sanitation practices.

§ Contributing to the preparation of internal and external reports for the NGO and donors, including expenditure plans and situation reports (SitReps)

Representation:

§ Representing the organization externally at cluster meetings and internally during coordination meetings

§ Collaborating and coordinating with the government, NGOs, and UN agencies on WASH issues.

§ Participating in State and National level WASH Cluster meetings and other relevant humanitarian coordination meetings.

§ Ensuring that all relevant stakeholders have information about the organization’s background, program, objectives, working areas, duration of programs and activities in the field

§ Promoting and reinforcing relationships with National technical authorities in WASH related intervention in the refugee settings.

Qualification and skills required:

§ Degree or in Public Health engineering, Environmental Health Engineering or other relevant qualification.

§ Diploma in above related filed with 5 years of experience in WASH in refugee context.

§ Experience in implementing humanitarian programs in Refugee context.

§ Must be familiar with Auto Card Software.

§ Good report writing skills

§ Good communication skills

§ Computer literacy ( good command of excel and)

§ Proficiency in English and Arabic language
