Job Description
Lutheran World Federation (LWF/WS – Ethiopia) is a registered foreign charity which has been operating in Ethiopia since 1973 implementing various development and humanitarian projects in different parts of Ethiopia.
LWF is currently looking and invites qualified candidates to apply for the following vacant position.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, design and supervise the building of irrigation, drainage, storage facilities such as diversion weirs, ponds and irrigation fixtures and installation of fixtures to requirements and specifications
Directs, through subordinate supervisors, construction of such irrigation systems as, canals, and ditches, according to type of soil, climatic characteristics, water supply, return flow, and other factors affecting irrigation requirements
Networks and collaborates with the Agriculture and Rural Development Office, Irrigation Process Owner, with farmers and other sector office staff to plan and carry out irrigation projects
Teaches the farmers regarding the various types of irrigation system
Troubleshoot problems that may come up during installation of irrigation system and during usage.
Follows the impact of having this irrigation system
Understand and strengthen the work of an irrigation system that will give the most excellent result
to an area
Design and evaluate equipment used for ground preparation, seeding, spraying, harvesting, in coordination with other project officers
Prepare and present technical reports
Employment Term: A year contract with possibility of extension
Job Requirements
Required qualification and Work Experience:
Masters or Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Engineering, Agriculture and irrigation system or other relevant discipline.
Minimum of 1 year relevant experience for Master’s degree and 3 years for Bachelor’s degree.
Key competencies:
Experience in furrow and drip irrigation technology
Excellent written and oral English Language skills required
Ability interact with people
Experience in Irrigational Engineering skills
