Our Client, an Engineering Development Company incorporated in Kenya and UAE with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya is urgently looking to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor to manage all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures.

The successful candidate must possess the knowledge, experience and confidence to engage and professionally interact with the design professionals, consultants, client and other construction related personnel in planning, coordinating and safely executing the work in accordance with the contract documents, schedule, budget other matters by performing the following duties;

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

To minimise the cost of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. This includes ensuring statutory building regulations are met

Prepare estimates and costs of the work and when the project is in progress, keep track of any variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to show profitability

Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client

Undertake cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work

Assist in establishing a client’s requirements and undertake feasibility studies
Perform risk, value management and cost control

Advise on a procurement strategy

Identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks

Prepare and analyse costing’s for tenders

Allocate work to subcontractors

Provide advice on contractual claims

Analyse outcomes and write detailed progress reports

Value completed work and arrange payments

Maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use

Understand the implications of health and safety regulations.

Provide post-occupancy advice, facilities management services and life cycle costing advice

Enable

clients to initiate construction projects

Advice on the maintenance costs of specific buildings.

Key Competencies & Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent with working knowledge in QC field from a recognized institution

Must have 10 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in Building Engineering Consulting

Practicing Licence/Certified by the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors

Corporate Member of IQSK (Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya)

Highly experienced in interpreting drawings into a BoQ for large projects

Extensive experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates and accruals calculations

Familiar with Quality Control Systems – ISO experience benefit

Project Engineering and Management experience

Must be willing and ready to be deployed for work purposes in Kenya and East African region at large

Must understand construction terms, scheduling and planning concepts

Proficient in MS Projects and Excel
Excellent organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills
