Job summary:

  • The overall responsibilities of the driver are to ensure the program vehicle is well maintained and serviced at all times and to drive program staff to different program locations, carry out simple purchases and run other office errands assigned to him/her.

  • They will strictly adhere to organizational policies and the traffic laws and regulations of Uganda and perform minor mechanical tasks.

    Key areas of accountability:

  • To drive program staff to the program area and carry out any other duties assigned by the Finance & Administration Assistant or his/her designate

  • Ensure there is safe driving of the vehicle at all times, using defensive driving techniques

  • To carry out preventive maintenance of the vehicle and report to the Finance & Administration Assistant about the status of the vehicle

  • Carry out simple purchases as directed by supervisor and according to LI Procurement and Financial Manuals and properly keep records for accountability and future reference

  • Maintain a daily record of vehicle movements by recording mileage at all times

  • Assist with loading and unloading of the vehicle as needed

  • Carry out daily vehicle checks on the mechanical condition and make recommendations to the APM

  • Represent Life water International with respect and integrity in the program area

  • Shall perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

    Qualifications:

  • Should possess a minimum of at least UCE (O level) certificate

  • The driver should have undergone driving training from a licensed driving school

  • Must be in possession of a valid and clean driving license (minimum class B)

  • Must possess a good driving record

  • A defensive driving certificate and
    some mechanic knowledge will be an added advantage

    Experience:

  • Must have driving experience of at least 8 years with a minimum of 3 years in an NGO setting

  • Experience in driving cars that use both manual and automatic transmission a MUST

  • Experience in vehicle mechanics and in defensive driving is an added advantage

  • Experience providing logistical support in a busy organization

    Personal skills:

  • Must be a mature Christian, able to cope with cross-cultural and denominational diversities

  • An energetic, flexible and proactive approach with the ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team setting

  • Well organized and efficient in time management whenever there is task pressure

  • Strong team-working skills and ability to develop and maintain effective working relations at all levels both within and outside the team

  • Ability to contribute towards resource stewardship

  • Excellent command of the English language; ability to speak the local language is an added advantage but not a requirement

  • A punctual, honest, dependable, servant leader, trustworthy, encourager, peacekeeper, multi-tasking, and self-starter
