Position: Grants and Impact Manager

Location: Isiolo, Meru / LEWA

Reporting to: Chief Programmes & Partnership Officer

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (LEWA) is a not-for-profit organization, which works as a catalyst for the conservation of wildlife and its habitat. LWC does this through the protection and management of species, the initiation and support of community conservation and development programmes and the education of neighboring areas in the value of wildlife. Job Purpose & Summary:
The Grants and Impact Manager is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and management of the Grants and Impact department, and through the team delivery of: grants management and reporting, monitoring and evaluation and an effective Salesforce database that is fit for purpose.

He/she works closely with the programme heads to ensure conformity with programmatic interventions, donor requirements and best practices with all applicable grant-related policies, procedures, and grants management system use.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

Grants Management and Reporting
  • Following assessment and guidance by the International development team on opportunities identified, work with the Grant and Reporting Officer and the programme heads to provide the information required to apply for grants opportunities.
  • Ensure those grant opportunities pursued are aligned with the strategic needs of LWC and its programmes; once won, ensure proposed project activities and plans within programmes are implemented in accordance with the terms and conditions of the grant.
  • Monitor submission of grant deliverables and reports, ensuring the provision of data and information to the
  • International team in good time, to the deadline. Coordinate with the CPPO, and International team for review and approval.
  • Ensure that all grant activities are properly documented from the start of implementation to grant close-down.


    Monitoring and Evaluation
    Support organizational M&E systems, in collaboration with the M&E Officer and programme heads including documenting grant requirements, reporting, baseline and evaluation surveys.
    Ensure the alignment of M&E activities with programme goals and contribute to the development of annual work plans to identify project targets and ensure the inclusion of M&E activities.
    Ensure timely and accurate submission of projects and grants reports including progress against targets set in the award agreement and the annual work plan.


    Support Lewa Data Infrastructure
  • Responsible for Salesforce administration to meet the responsibilities of LWC (monitoring and evaluation, finance, and other functions such as the rhino naming programme) and ensure that it is optimally serving the needs of the organization and works effectively alongside the responsibilities of the International team (donor management, led by the Strategic Data Manager).
  • Participate in the optimization of Lewa data management platforms such as Earth ranger, LoRa and Salesforce
    with focus on streamlining solutions for monitoring and data-driven decision making.


    Program Management
  • Work with the programme heads to define strategic priorities and identify synergies, based on LWC Theories of
  • Change, into project design, monitoring, reporting, and budgeting.
  • Develop capacity and provide technical assistance across the organization to use data and information to develop evidence-based conservation solutions.
  • Monitor external trends around conservation and social development metrics and support their use in programme design and development, thought leadership, and impact monitoring.
  • Building partnership with external organizations and internal teams and proactively seek out feedback to understand challenges to create more effective impact monitoring
  • Contribute to thought leadership on planning for, measuring and reporting on conservation and community development impacts.
  • Supervise and build capacity of the Grants Management & Reporting Officer, Salesforce Administrator and the
  • Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.


    Qualifications:

    Education / Knowledge and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental/Conservation Science or Development or equivalent experience.
  • Further qualifications in relevant disciplines (e.g., monitoring and evaluation, project management, impact monitoring, research, etc.) would be an advantage.
  • At least 10 years of experience in conservation or development, including designing, developing, and implementing impact monitoring and evaluation and visualization.
  • Working knowledge of the Salesforce platform.


    Competency and Technical Skills
  • Excellent data analysis and visualization skills with critical and strategic thinking with a result focus.
  • Knowledge and experience with a proven record of grant application writing and management, preferably in an international organisation or large non-profit organisation.
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills, with proficiency in Kiswahili.
  • Good diplomatic and communication skills with an ability to network, communicate with and exert influence across a broad spectrum of individuals (e.g., government representatives, donors, public figures, staff) and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse, geographically dispersed teams.
