Job Purpose

Responsible for accurate compounding, dispensing, patient education and handling of pharmaceutical supplies for all orders to meet customer needs.

Key Performance Areas

  • Dispensing of prescriptions and compounding of preparations
  • Maintenance of both stock issues and stock purchases
  • Formulary adherence per doctors’ guidance
  • Appropriate stock rotation so as to minimize stock wastage
  • Turnaround time in service delivery

    Duties and Responsibilities
  • Dispense drugs accurately and in a timely manner to uphold quality standards of the department.
  • Ensure that both stock items and non-stock items are dispensed appropriately
  • Receive prescriptions from patients, verify and dispense drugs within approved standards and procedures
  • Compound drugs when required, for effective service provision.
  • Counsel patients on drug administration for optimum customer satisfaction.
  • Manage stock discrepancy and ensure that the variance levels are kept to a minimum.
  • Complete the expiry list accurately and in a timely manner for proper recording and monitoring of drugs.
  • Verify expiry dates of drugs prior to dispensing to prevent anomalies in service delivery
  • Ensure the accuracy of the label before dispensing for effective service delivery
  • Ensure end of day procedures are strictly adhered to.
  • Prepare monthly drug stock reports
  • Comply and observe drug handling and disposal in accordance with environmental health and safety measures and regulations.
  • Contact the prescribing doctor for clarification in prescription order, proper documentation and advice
  • Perform random stock take when called upon
  • Perform any other duties from time to time as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

  • High customer satisfaction rating
  • Ensure stock items are dispensed within 30 minutes and non stock items within a maximum of 24 hours
  • Stock discrepancy to be maintained below 2% of total stock holding
  • Zero cost of expired stock
  • Zero drug dispensing errors
  • Full adherence to standard operating and drug handling procedures

    Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
  • Diploma in Pharmacy
  • Practicing License from Pharmacy and Poisons Board
  • 1 year of appropriate experience in pharmaceutical operations
  • Microsoft suite packages proficiency
