Requirements

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must
have:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen;
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant
    field from a recognized University in
    Kenya;
  • Have a vast knowledge and experience of
    not less than 10 years in the relevant field,
    5 of which should be in a managerial
    position in a large organization;
  • Masters degree in any of the following
    fields: Medicine, Anesthesia, Cardiothoracic Surgery; Dermatology, Ear, Nose and Throat,
    Otorhinolaryngology, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Geriatrics, Internal Medicine, Microbiology, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Occupational Medicine, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatrics and Child Health,
    Palliative Medicine, Pathology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Psychiatry, Public Health, Radiology, Health Systems Management, Health Economics, Health Informatics, Epidemiology, Global Health Policy, Public Health Microbiology and Emerging Infectious Diseases, Biostatistics or equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya will be an added advantage;
  • Certificate of Registration by the Medical
    Practitioners and Dentists Board;
  • Valid practicing license from Medical
    Practitioners and Dentists Board;

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The office holder chairs County Health
    Management Team (CHMT)

  • Provide leadership in formulating and
    implementing health policies in the
    department;
  • Supervise medical superintendents, unit
    heads and Sub-County Medical Officers
    of Health (SCMOHs);
  • Provide leadership and guidance for
    service delivery;
  • Manages administrative responsibilities
    (preparation and approval of work plans,
    departmental budgets, etc.);
  • Implement performance management
    system in the department;
  • Implement monitoring and evaluation of
    health services;
  • Ensures that health services and
    operations comply with the law or
    regulatory bodies;
  • Ensure compliance with financial
    regulations in the Department of Health
  • Coordinate National Health Programmes;
  • Oversee health outreach activities;
  • Ensure implementation of affirmative,
    gender and disability mainstreaming in the
    Department of Health;
  • Provide leadership and
    implements
    corporate governance in the Department
    of Health;
  • Enhance sustainability of health operations through partnership and collaboration with development partners and health/learning institutions
  • Establish and maintain a good working
    environment for health providers and the
    community;
  • Ensure inventory management in the
    Department of Health;
  • Receive and make reports about the
    medical services within the county.

    (EACC); and Credit Reference Bureau
    (CRB) and respective professional bodies.
