General Functions:

Under the direction of the Plantation Section Head, Plantation cane development officer is responsible for preparing a daily and weekly activity plan; assigning workers on various field activities; involving in setting prices of some contract works; supervising of field operations and approving completed works by checking the performance against the standard, signing attendance list of piece rate workers; and guiding cane growth measurements.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assigning works to various field operations based on daily work assignment.
    Checking the performance on the assigned work.

  • Checking and approving the quality and quantity of the work done in his area.

  • Checking and controlling the proper application of agrochemicals to the recommended fields.

  • Making a daily field tour to control various field activities or problems such as checking the presence of irrigation water supply, cane damage, weeding, fertilizer application, and smut inspection progress and delivering report to the Area Manager.

  • Directing and controlling activities of cane growth measurements (cane height and number) periodically and handing over the data to the plantation clerk.

  • Involving in the approval of all contract works.

  • Undertaking follows up on the attendance of workers.

  • Ensuring the proper utilization of all resources (inputs and materials) and execution or follow up of the work processes.

  • Controlling production costs through supervising the quality and quantity of works performed.

  • Managing seed cane fields as per the prescribed cultivation standards.

  • Creating and maintaining conducive working environment in which employees can fully involve in achieving organizational objectives.

  • Ensuring prompt handling of labor cases in conjunction with the field assistants, foremen and Area Manager.

  • Implementing and monitoring the implementation of operational standards.

  • Implementing various cost reduction methods by ensuring the
    efficient utilization of all types of resources and timely execution of operations.

  • Appraising performance of the subordinates.

  • Preparing periodic performance and field observation reports

  • Prepare reports on time regarding equipment and materials needed, work done in terms of hectares, no. of laboures etc

  • Organizing workflow and ensuring that the employees understand their duties and tasks.

  • Monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback.

  • Inspecting cane fields to determine maturity, yield, pest infestation or work requirements such as spraying and weeding.

    Job Specification:

    Education and Experience Required:

  • Diploma in Plant Sciences/Crop Production with 2 years relevant experience

  • Certificate in Plant Sciences/Crop Production with 5 years relevant experience

  • Training Required: Sugarcane Agronomy certificate / supervisory course

    Skills Required:

  • Microsoft office applications (computer literate)

  • Management, team leadership, and good communication skills

  • Sugarcane Agronomy

  • Planning and coordination skills, innovative and proactive

  • Must demonstrate authority, leadership, honesty and integrity.

  • Valid Motorbike license
