Paediatric Developmental Specialist - V/FT/164/2022 - 1 Post

Position Summary

The Paediatric Developmental Specialist will work collaboratively with a large interdisciplinary team, which includes psychologists, speech therapists, physical and occupational therapists, dietitians, nurses, and social workers/family navigators.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide developmental assessment and clinical care to pediatric patients, working collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Identifying specific developmental and psychological disorders in children and ensuring they receive the care they need so that they can thrive.

Creating a therapy program to overcome their developmental obstacles.

Confer with parents on an as-needed basis, offering them resources and mediating parent/ provider conflict, as well as discussing children’s assessments, needs and interests, and strategies to use in facilitating children’s growth and development.

Actively support parental involvement by planning and facilitating responsive and directed parent activities.

To teach parents, educators, and other caretakers how to help their child achieve his or her goals and reach their potential.

To work with social services and community assistance agencies to compile resources, organize
educational and childcare arrangements and make referrals when necessary.

Teach and mentor medical students, nurses and other doctors in the delivery of clinical care.

Any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of the Department.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from a recognized institution by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

Master’s Degree in Paediatrics and Child health or equivalent from the University of Nairobi or any other recognized University by the Medical Practitioner and Dentist Council.

Fellowship in Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics from a recognized institution.

Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

Recognition as a specialist by the

KMPDC.

Valid Practice License from Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.

Proficiency in computer applications.

At least one year working experience as a Paediatric Developmental Specialist in a reputable hospital.
