Hepatobiliary Surgeon - V/FT/154/2022 – 2 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishing and operationalizing of hepato-biliary unit that provides out-patient and in-patient consultative services to patients with hepatic, biliary and pancreatic pathologies

  • In conjunction with relevant authorities set up a liver transplant unit within the hospital

  • Provide laparoscopic or open surgical services to patients requiring hepatic, biliary or pancreatic resections

  • Display competency in both diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP.

    Skills in percutaneous hepatic cholangiography, hepatic vessel ablative and embolization techniques is an added advantage

  • Provide acute care to general surgical patients while “on call”

  • Supervise the implementation of evidence-based care and treatment plans by other cadres of staff in the hospital

  • Participate in development of standard operative procedures and protocols relevant to field of expertise

  • Conduct continuous medical education and research in clinical area of work

  • Participate in community out-reach services with aim of providing patient education relevant to area of specialisation

  • Display agility, prioritize and organise work to meet changing conditions and level of evidence towards patients care

  • Participate actively in oncology multi-disciplinary meetings, provide evidence-based decisions tailored to individual patients

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from a recognized institution.

  • Master of Medicine in Hepatobiliary Surgery from a recognized institution.

  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

  • Recognition as a specialist by the KMPDC.

  • Valid Practice License.

  • Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.

  • Proficiency in computer applications.

  • At least one year of working experience as a Hepatobiliary Surgeon in a busy hospital.
