Short Description of the Position

Kunzila horticulture industry development is one of three prospective horticulture corridors identified by the government of Ethiopia; the other two being Shalla and Alage. The Kunzila site is located in Amhara Regional State, 54 km from Bahairadr on the west side of Lake Tana.

The total size of the land is 526 ha and this land was run by Ethiopian Seed Enterprise until last year where Amhara Seed Enterprise took over for transitional period until the floriculture investors are fully on-board.

In relation to the floriculture investment, several steps have been taken to reach common understanding among different stakeholders over the last two years. Among others there were series of dialogues among regional and local government, community members and investors about the planned investment.

The overall processes in relation to Kunzila Horticulture development are led by Amhara investment Commission with the support of Embassy of Kingdom of the Netherlands in Addis Ababa, Netherland Enterprise Agency (RVO) and Ethiopian Horticulture Producers Association (EPHEA).

In order to speed up and drive implementation of key activities at take off and possibly for the next three years, a project manager is needed for a short term assignment with possible extension.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Partnership Facilitation

  • Acts as a principal contact person to the core group (regional government, investors and embassy of kingdom of the Netherlands/ RVO.nl) in relation to Kunzila Horticulture Development.
  • Responsible to monitor and follow-up for smooth implementation of the PACT and Delivery of Integrated Development Plan.
  • Responsible for coordinating and following up plans and progresses of different regional and federal offices relevant for the successful start of Kunzila Horticulture Development (regional bureaus-example agriculture, road, electricity, environment, industry park etc).
  • Network with other potential partners and update relevant partners on progresses.
  • Keep smooth working relationship among partners by creating synergy and ground for shared vision.

    Project Management and Coordination

  • Organize project steering and management team meetings on a monthly basis.
  • Responsible for planning, partly implementing and monitoring actions agreed on project steering and management meeting.
  • Organize a weekly update (written, to be send
    to all core group organisations) and organize a progress review meeting with Amhara Regional State Deputy President and Investment commissioner.
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing missions to and from Kunzila and serve as the main contact person for the project matters.
  • Responsible for sharing information to different partners and stakeholders (other than those mentioned under # 3) and and when needed.

    Communication

  • Initiate and communicate ideas relevant for the partners and facilitate discussion as and when needed.
  • Responsible for all communications and sharing relevant information to all relevant partners. This could be by e-mail, whatup and phone as and when needed.
  • Work with relevant local administrations to ensure that information has reached on time and consistently.
  • Proactively communicate on potential issues that need attention of the core group.

    Leadership and Management Competences

    Technical Competencies

  • Sound understanding of environmental and social compliance requirements of the horticulture industry
  • Proven track record in project management and coordination.
  • Proven track record in partnership in the context of Public-Private Partnership.
  • Sound understanding of business and public priorities and their working culture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint packages.
  • Sound understanding of the financial management and financial reporting system of a PLC.
  • Type of employment 3 months with possible extension for one year depending on performance

    Job Requirements

    Education, Work experience and Language

  • Educational background in Business Administration, Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness or any other related field.
  • At least 5 years hands on experience in business development, market development and community organization.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and Amharic languages is a must.
