KTDA Power Company Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of KTDA Holdings Ltd. Its mandate is to encourage and promote the smallholder tea sector to develop small hydro-power projects (SHP) with the aim of reducing operating costs, increasing power supply reliability, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and diversifying sources of revenue.

We are seeking to appoint a competent, dynamic, highly qualified and talented professional to join our management team in the following exciting and challenging position.

Civil Engineer

Position scope

Reporting to the General Manager, KTPC, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing Civil and structural engineering technical support in the development and operation of KTPC power projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing civil/structural engineering designs;
  • Participating in the preparation of the feasibility studies of power projects;
  • Assisting in tender documentation and budget estimates;
  • Assessing potential risks, materials and costs;
  • Managing budget and purchase equipment/materials;
  • Reviewing drawings (Internal and External);
  • Monitoring progress and compiling reports on project status;
  • Carrying building audits to establish status of service;
  • Ensuring compliance with guidelines and regulations including permits and safety measures;
  • Liaising with the relevant authorities in acquisition and renewal/ extension of permits and licences
  • Conducting Hydrological studies
  • Participating in the development of KTPC policy and procedures manual.
  • Assisting in the development of an O&M Manual/ISO and QAP
  • Initiating processing of payments to contractors and consultants.

    Qualifications/Competencies/Experience
  • The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications, experience and competencies: -
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/ Structural Engineering, or related field;
  • Five (5) years relevant experience, two (2) of which must be on a hydropower projects;
  • Registered by the Engineering
    Board;
  • At least completed feasibility study, design and construction of civil engineering project
  • Mastery of latest engineering design and draughting software, tools and equipment
  • Good planning, management and supervision skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Must demonstrate high integrity and ethical practice
  • Must demonstrate ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Must be a team player who is able to work cordially in teams
  • Must demonstrate ability to multitask.
  • Must demonstrate commitment to operational effectiveness
  • Should have ability to solve problems by applying relevant business knowledge
  • Should demonstrate professional expertise in the relevant work area
  • Must have the ability to communicate for both written and oral communication
  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Must be a flexible person, who is willing to learn and able to work flexible hours to achieve goals
  • Must have knowledge in use of MS office packages and Engineering Software.
