Job Description

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is an independent National Human Rights Institution created by Article 59 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and established by the Government of Kenya through an Act of Parliament (the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights Act, 2011) and under the United Nations Paris Principles

The Assignment

The model guidelines will be used to guide the setting up of operational grievance handling mechanisms of the different businesses.

The Consultant’s duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Development of an inception report indicating an understanding of the assignment, a proposed road map/work plan for execution of the assignment including methodology and timelines.

  • Carry out extensive desktop and field research to identify existing grievance handling mechanisms.

  • Conduct stakeholder consultations in the process of developing the model guidelines.

  • Guided by the findings, develop Draft Model Guidelines for Operational Level Grievance Mechanisms for the business sector.

  • Facilitate validation of the draft Model Guidelines with stakeholders and incorporate relevant feedback into the Draft Model Guidelines.

  • Refine and submit final Model Guidelines for Operational Level Grievance Mechanisms for the business sector.

  • Any other task(s) related to fulfilling the objectives of the assignment.

    Duration

    The consultancy will run for a period of
    45 days from 15th January 2023 to 31st March 2023.

    Job Requirements

    The consultant(s) should have the following skills, qualifications and experiences:

    Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Political Science, Commerce or related discipline from a university recognized in Kenya.

  • A Master’s degree or additional studies in Development or Human Rights will be an added advantage.

    Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in Human Rights

  • Proven experience in developing model guidelines

  • Demonstrable understanding of Business and Human Rights

    Technical competencies

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Excellent work ethic founded on the principles of integrity, impartiality, and confidentiality.

  • Professionalism in the process of engaging stakeholders.
