Kituo Cha Sheria Assistant Programme Officer - Migration Justice And Governance Jobs in Kenya; Provide legal advice, representation, and litigation support to clients while assisting in programme planning, implementation, community engagement, fundraising, and stakeholder partnerships. Support ongoing projects such as RAWI‑EA coalition and HAKI Mashinani/JVI partnership by managing casework, coordinating outreach, and contributing to donor reporting and documentation. Contribute to community empowerment through legal aid outreach, public education, and paralegal capacity building.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

Programme Support

  • Assist in planning and execution of legal aid clinics, forums, workshops, and trainings.

  • Support case management, referrals, and stakeholder liaison.

  • Provide legal information under supervision, ensuring confidentiality.

  • Contribute to workplans, schedules, and programme reports.

  • Attend working group meetings and prepare notes.


    Administration & Logistics

  • Organize logistics for meetings, trainings, and field activities.

  • Maintain filing systems (hard copy and digital).

  • Draft correspondence with partners and stakeholders.

  • Support procurement processes in line with policy.


    Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

  • Support data collection, entry, and analysis for M&E.

  • Participate in surveys and consultations.

  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

  • Document success stories and lessons learned.


    Finance Support

  • Assist in preparing budgets, fund requisitions, and liquidations.

  • Ensure timely submission of accountability documents.

  • Work with finance to support proper fund utilization.


    Legal Aid & Client Support

  • Screen and assess legal needs of refugees, asylum seekers, IDPs, and victims of trafficking.

  • Provide legal aid under supervision.

  • Identify cases for litigation or referral.

  • Support drafting of correspondence and case documentation.

  • Accompany Legal Officers to court and maintain case records.

  • Provide direct legal aid for victims of migration abuses under HAKI Mashinani.


    Safeguarding Support

  • Support safeguarding awareness and training activities.

  • Assist in recording safeguarding concerns.

  • Participate in safeguarding coordination meetings.


    Community Paralegal Training & Outreach

  • Support training logistics for paralegals.

  • Participate in legal aid outreaches and fact‑finding.

  • Prepare training and outreach materials.


    Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinate with community partners, CSOs, and government agencies.

  • Represent programme at community events.

  • Assist in producing IEC materials and newsletters.


    Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.


    Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B).

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Law (advantage).

  • Admission as Advocate of
    the High Court (advantage).

  • Additional training in human rights, refugee law, or safeguarding (advantage).


    Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ professional, internship, or pupillage experience (NGO or legal aid preferred).

  • Exposure to refugee, asylum, IDP, and migration governance issues.

  • Experience in programme administration and logistics.

  • Basic M&E and donor project support experience.

    Reporting & Supervision
    Reports to Programme Officer/Legal Officer and Programme Manager. Works closely with programme teams, legal staff, paralegals, volunteers, and finance teams. May require travel to project sites, courts, and partner meetings.
