The Role

This is a new and strategically important position within a dynamic network of civil society, government and research partners, which will place the successful applicant at the heart of efforts to strengthen accountability and building institutional sustainability.

We are seeking a Kenyan with the experience, skills and confidence to put to use already set accounting systems and processes so as to increase organizational efficiency and effectiveness in financial management.

The role will require competence in accounting, book keeping, budgeting and reporting. The goal is to prepare and generate real time reports for different projects and the organization at large.

The Financial accountant will work closely with the Finance and Administration Officer of KEWASNET and the Programme Management Team to ensure that the organization operated optimally, effectively and efficiently and that it responds to the needs of stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare payment requests as per budget and regulations

  • Maintain accurate records of expenditure/filing

  • Production of financial management reports

  • Compile timely and compliant financial reports of KEWASNET & partner organizations

  • Compile expenditure reports on donor funded programmes

  • Produce accurate and timely financial reports to donors, know and make known conditions and time restrictions

  • Monitor expenditure against budget investigating, analyzing and reporting significant variances

  • Prepare statutory payments due and follow up outstanding VAT/customs

  • Review coding of transactions and supporting documents to ensure correctness as per budget

  • Input data in Sage

  • Process
    payroll

  • Process Employee benefits, insurance, submit remittances on time

    Person Specification

    The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following;

    Experience and Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance

  • Certified Public accountant (CPA)

  • At least five years’ experience in a busy finance department undertaking budgeting, accounting and reporting roles

  • Demonstrate experience and understanding of SAGE300

  • Experience in management of multi-year, multi- partner projects

    Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrates command in data analysis Proven analytical and problem-solving skills in order to understand the range and content of accountability for water work and provide practical solutions to operational challenges.

  • Technical interpretation of transactions for coding in SAGE300

  • A flexible and resourceful attitude with the ability to manage and prioritize an unpredictable workload.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, professional diligence and ethical conduct.

  • Must be dynamic, creative, and passionate about delivering positive change in the world.
