Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review medical history and records of cardiovascular patients in order to understand their medical conditions better and diagnose their diseases properly in the cardiovascular unit.

  • Conduct physical examination relative to patients’ medical history, to evaluate a patient's current heart vessels conditions and identify the current or potential heart problems.

  • Conduct tests for a more precise diagnosis so as to identify any abnormalities, congenital heart defects, or heart and coronary artery conditions.

  • Refer cardiovascular patients for further diagnosis, if need be, by other medical specialists such as the ECG Technicians and radiologist.

  • Review and interpret the laboratory or radiology test results, review cardiovascular medical reports and decide on the best treatment or therapy option.

  • Prescribe and administer prescribed medication and other lifestyle therapies to cardiovascular patients in the cardiology unit.

  • Explain to cardiovascular patients of risk factors that could possibly be damaging the heart, such as obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, poor eating habits, or a family history of heart diseases.

  • Collaborate with other medical specialists in treating and managing patients with complex medical condition that involve cardiovascular illnesses.

  • Promote heart health and provide rehabilitation
    to those who have undergone cardiovascular surgery or other heart treatments in the cardiology unit.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from a recognized institution.

  • Master of Medicine in Cardiology from a recognized institution

  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.

  • Current retention certificate

  • Valid Practice License.

  • Recognition as a specialist by the KMPDC

  • Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.

  • Proficiency in computer applications.

  • At least three years of working experience as a Cardiologist in a reputable hospital.
