Kenya Tea Development Agency Head of Product Development and Diversification Jobs
Kenya Tea Development Agency Head of Product Development and Diversification Jobs;Lead KTDA’s strategy for new product development, research, and diversification to reduce reliance on bulk orthodox and black CTC tea. Drive development of value‑added tea products, alternative beverages, and non‑tea products to improve farmer earnings, expand market access, and position KTDA as a global leader in diversified agricultural products.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and implement KTDA’s NPD and Diversification strategy aligned to corporate goals and Tea Industry Act.
Lead NPD Research and Diversification teams to deliver commercially viable products.
Provide market and consumer insights to Senior Management for investment decisions.
Liaise with research institutions, government agencies, and private institutions on NPD strategies.
Review and recommend adoption of specifications for inputs, processes, and equipment.
Plan and coordinate NPD projects and strategic initiatives.
Identify training tools to enhance employee performance.
Document all phases of product development.
Monitor and evaluate NPD projects to ensure effective resource utilization.
Identify market trends, consumer needs, and opportunities in tea, herbal infusions, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, and other agricultural value chains.
Oversee concept development, formulation, pilot testing, sensory evaluation, and commercial launch.
Manage end‑to‑end process: ideation → R&D → regulatory approval → branding → market testing → scale‑up.
Ensure compliance with Tea Board, KEBS, FDA, EU, and export standards.
Partner with TRFK, universities, and private labs for product and agronomic research.
Drive innovation in processing technologies, packaging, shelf‑life, and sustainability.
Manage product tests, budgets, and IP protection through patents/trademarks.
Support factories in adopting new processing lines for diversified products.
Disseminate NPD research findings to end
users.
Explore diversification into allied products: specialty teas, RTD, extracts, tea‑based foods, bio‑products, and by‑products.
Build business cases for new ventures and partnerships.
Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, and Factory Operations for commercialization.
Track product P&L and ensure ROI targets are met.
Prepare timely and accurate reports for stakeholders.
Qualifications / Skills / Experience
Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Agricultural Economics, Chemistry, or Business.
Membership in relevant professional body (e.g., KIFST, ICPAK).
8–10 years’ experience, with at least 5 years in senior NPD/R&D leadership in FMCG, beverages, or agro‑processing. Tea industry experience preferred.
Proven track record of launching at least 3 successful products in the last 5 years.
Technical expertise: tea chemistry, formulation, sensory science, food safety, regulatory affairs.
Strategic skills: market research, trend forecasting, business modeling, portfolio management.
Leadership skills: team management, cross‑functional collaboration, project management, budget oversight.
Commercial skills: brand positioning, pricing strategy, go‑to‑market planning.
Strong data‑driven decision‑making, innovation mindset, presentation, and negotiation skills.
