Kenya Tea Development Agency Head of Innovation and Data Science Jobs;Drive KTDA’s growth through market‑led innovation and data science. Generate strategic business opportunities by turning ideas, research, and market insights into commercial solutions across the tea value chain, creating value for farmers, factories, and consumers.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and implement KTDA’s Innovation & Data Science strategy.
Establish and manage the KTDA Prototyping Lab/Innovation Hub.
Translate R&D outputs into market‑ready products and processes.
Build KTDA’s data ecosystem integrating factory, farmer, market, and consumer data.
Establish dashboards and predictive models to track innovation ROI.
Conduct test marketing, A/B testing, and market trials.
Develop analytics for brand performance, pricing, demand forecasting, and segmentation.
Track commercial KPIs of innovations and report impact.
Source innovations in precision farming, IoT, drones, sensors, and climate‑smart inputs.
Test new technologies with R&D and Field Services before rollout.
Use data to measure impact on yield, cost, and labor.
Translate research and market data into farmer recommendations.
Identify gaps for specialty teas, functional teas, RTD, extracts, and premium blends.
Monitor post‑launch performance and optimize blends, packaging, and pricing.
Prototype new packaging, blends, and delivery formats.
Identify diversification opportunities beyond tea (herbal infusions, nutraceuticals, foods, beverages, cosmetics).
Collaborate with R&D to assess feasibility of non‑tea concepts.
Lead cross‑functional teams to prototype and pilot non‑tea products.
Track performance of diversified products and recommend adjustments.
Ensure regulatory compliance and commercial viability of innovations.
Apply AI/data analytics to optimize factory processes.
Pilot data‑driven
solutions for energy savings, throughput, and quality consistency.
Develop predictive models for quality control, maintenance, and waste reduction.
Drive adoption of digital tools and dashboards across factories.
Identify proprietary engineering product opportunities (energy‑efficient equipment, automation, waste valorization).
Collaborate with R&D, Engineering, and Factory teams to test and scale solutions.
Qualifications / Skills / Experience
Master’s degree in Data Science, Business, Engineering, Food Science, Marketing, or related field.
Certification in Product Management, AI/ML, or Innovation preferred.
8–10 years’ experience, with 5 years in senior Innovation/Data Science/Product Development roles.
Proven experience working with R&D teams.
Experience launching products/process improvements in FMCG, agro‑processing, or manufacturing.
Tea/agriculture sector experience an advantage.
Technical expertise: AI/ML, Python/SQL, BI tools, IoT, data modeling.
Market research, business case development, marketing strategy, P&L management.
Strong leadership, innovation management, project delivery, and stakeholder engagement.
Analytical skills: data storytelling, problem‑solving, commercial acumen.
