Job Competencies (Knowledge, Experience and Attributes / Skills)

Academic Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited university/ college in any of the following fields: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering or similar qualification with a strong technical background.

A first level university degree from an accredited university/college in any of the following fields; Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or similar qualifications with a strong technical background combined with the required work experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree.

Professional Qualifications

Professional qualification / certification as applicable.

Undertaken a Strategic Leadership/Management course from a recognized institution.

Ability to understand and administer ABS Classification guidelines, USCG and SOLAS and IMO requirements.

Considerable knowledge in all areas of shipbuilding and repair, material handling, labor, safety and product related state and federal regulations and practices.

Proficient in Computer application and computer aided applications drawings.

Previous Relevant Work Experience Required

At least twelve (12) years’ working experience, five (5) years of which should be in a managerial position in the following areas:
Shipyard/dockyard management

Technical experience in Maritime/Marine and Military Naval Systems.

Experience in the management of shipyards and/or supervising ship construction at a managerial level.

Experience in the Disciplined Services at managerial/senior command of at least 5 years is desirable.

International experience in shipbuilding will be an added advantage
