Introduction

The Kenya School of Law is a public legal education provider responsible for the provision of professional
legal training as an agent of the Government. The School is run under the auspices of the Kenya School of
Law Act No. 26 of 2012 of the Laws of Kenya. The core functions of the of the School as currently constituted
includes provision of the following services

Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary, strategic and creative direction and leadership by positioning and representing the School nationally and internationally;
  • Be the Academic and Administrative head and Accounting Officer of the School, who will manage and plan for the efficient use of School resources;
  • Have overall responsibility for managing, directing, organizing and administering all the activities of the School;
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of the Academic, Administrative and Financial Policies of the School in accordance with the School’s mandate, functions and Strategic Plan;
  • Maintain effective and good order of the School and ensure proper enforcement of Statutes and Regulations;
  • Take responsibility for the implementation of the Board’s decisions in an effective, efficient, result oriented and timely manner;
  • Ensure the development and efficient management of the School’s Human Resources and the discipline by all staff;
  • Conduct examinations in accordance with the schedule and programme approved by the Board;
  • Foster local and international partnerships with institutions of higher learning, research and other agencies;
  • Mobilize financial and other resources for the School;

    Qualifications

  • A holder of a Master’s Degree in Law with at least fifteen (15) years relevant experience in an academic institution or practice of law; or a holder of an LL.M in Law and a Ph.D in a relevant field with ten (10) years postdoctoral academic experience or practice of law;
  • Have at least Eight (8) years administrative experience at senior level and possess demonstrable leadership in a similar academic environment;
  • Have demonstrable ability to plan, develop and implement academic programmes and projects and develop strategic institutional linkages with experience in resource mobilization;
  • Have excellent understanding of the current trends in legal education and training;
  • Be registered with, and an active member of professional associations in their field of competence;
  • Have excellent analytical, problem solving, decision making, team building, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Be of the highest ethical standards, integrity and professionalism and comply with the requirements of Chapter six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.

    Responsibilities

  • Participate in developing the School’s strategic plan, by ensuring the departments objectives align to the organizational objectives.
  • Prepare Finance Department’s quality objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Prepare both annual and quarterly financial reports as a monitoring tool of budget implementation and in compliance with statutory requirements.
  • To compile the School’s annual budget aligned to the Strategic Plan and divisional work plans
    ensuring compliance with government policy, sound financial principles.
  • Ensure fair balance between revenue and expenditure for approval by the Board.
  • Develop budgetary guidelines for use by divisional heads and Coordinate and manage the annual budgeting process and its quarterly reviews;
  • Develop appropriate financial management and accounting systems in compliance with national
    accounting standards;
  • Develop and implement effective financial internal controls.

    Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in business related field from a recognized institution
  • Fully qualified Accountant CPA, ACCA, ACA, CFA or any other internationally recognized
    qualification in Finance and Accounting.
  • Membership of ICPAK in good standing or to any internationally recognized professional body
    of Finance and Accounting.
  • Knowledge of ERP accounting systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office
  • Mastery of the concepts and principles of a specialist field, ability to manage other professionals or experts in this field
  • A
    minimum of ten (10) years relevant working experience three (3) years of which should be at a
    senior level.

    Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies on continuing legal education,
    continuing legal and professional development in consultation with the Assistant Director,
    Continuing Legal Education, Projects and Research (CPD);
  • Assist in planning the academic calendar of the School in relation to Continuing Legal Education,Projects and Research;
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation of training and research projects to improve quality of future projects;
  • Assist in the implementation of the strategic plan of the CPD Department;
  • Implement quality assurance systems of the department;
  • Assist in implementation of the Research and Development Policy
  • Assist in the budgetary planning within the CPD of the School;
  • Undertake research assignments based on the School’s Research and Development Policy;
  • Undertake training in CPD programmes and staff training activities;
  • Undertake administrative tasks relating to the department, such as client induction programmes
    and involvement in committees;
  • Coordinate resource mobilisation and logistics for facilitating CPD training programmes
  • Assist in preparation of periodic reports on behalf of the department;
  • Establish collaborative links outside the School with both private and public organisations;
  • Carry out any other duties that may be assigned by the Assistant Director; CPD.

    Qualifications

  • Possess a LLM degree or equivalent from a recognized University
  • Post graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
  • Must be a member of LSK in good standing.
  • Have served for a minimum of ten (10) years, three (3) years of which should be as a
    trainer/consultant/research/project work .

    Responsibilities

  • Advise to the management on matters relating to infrastructural development of the Schoo.
  • Ensure maintenance of all buildings, generators, roads, pumps, grounds as per the maintenance schedule and plans.
  • Ensure the School has an efficient water supply, electricity and sewerage system.
  • Assist in preparation of budget for maintenance work, projects and estimates
  • Preparation of periodic reports on repairs and on the status of the buildings and other
    installations.
  • Advise on the security of all the School assets.
  • Advise on Quality Management Control systems, as regards the Schools properties.
  • Ensure Property /facilities Safety Inspections:
  • Ensure scheduled repairs, renovation projects, waste reduction improvements and safety inspections are conducted.
  • Ensure monitoring of land rates and leases where applicable.
  • Liaise with the other Government agencies on issues of permits/licenses on infrastructural projects of the School

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Land Economics/Building Economics/Estates Management/Facility
    management or equivalent from a recognized institution
  • Be a member of a relevant professional body
    c) Have five (5) years’ relevant experience of which three (3) should be at supervisory level.
