Kenya Reinsurance Corporation Limited Chief Accountant Jobs; The role ensures accurate preparation of financial statements under IFRS 17, group accounting and consolidation, effective treasury and cash flow management, robust budgeting and strategic financial planning, performance contracting, and full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
This includes oversight of sustainability disclosures under IFRS S1 (General Sustainability-related Financial Disclosures) and IFRS S2 (Climate-related Disclosures) to support ESG integration, financial sustainability, and achievement of Kenya Re’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning, Budgeting & Performance Contracting
Lead development and implementation of annual budgets and long-term financial projections
Coordinate preparation and monitoring of performance contracts aligned with strategic plans
Advise Senior Management on financial planning, resource allocation, and sustainability
Review budget performance, undertake variance analysis, and recommend corrective actions
Treasury & Cash Flow Management
Oversee treasury operations including cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and banking relationships
Ensure optimal management of working capital, foreign currency exposure, and investment portfolio
Financial Reporting, IFRS 17 & Group Accounting
Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and consolidated accounts
Lead group accounting processes including consolidation of subsidiaries and Retakaful operations
Ensure timely submission of regulatory returns to the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA)
Sustainability & ESG Reporting (IFRS S1 & S2)
Lead preparation and disclosure of sustainability-related financial information under IFRS S1 and S2
Coordinate identification and reporting of ESG risks and opportunities
Support integration of ESG factors into financial decision-making
Compliance, Tax & Statutory Obligations
Ensure compliance with Public Finance Management Act 2012, IFRS 17, tax laws, and statutory requirements
Manage timely processing and remittance of statutory deductions, taxes, pensions, and regulatory payments
Liaise with auditors, IRA, and oversight bodies during audits and reviews
Internal Controls & Accounting Operations
Develop and strengthen internal financial controls and accounting systems
Maintain accurate general ledger, fixed assets register, and reconciliations
Oversee payroll, bank reconciliations, creditors
management, and expenditure authorization
Advisory, Policy & Leadership
Provide advice on financial policies, revenue optimization, costing, and efficiency
Recommend improvements to financial policies and governance frameworks including ESG integration
Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while fostering professionalism
Prepare departmental work plans, procurement plans, and management reports
Any Other Duties
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements / Person Specifications
Academic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration (Finance/Accounting Option), Business Management (Finance/Accounting Option), Strategic Management, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent
Master’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration (Finance/Accounting Option), Business Management (Finance/Accounting Option), Strategic Management, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent
Professional Qualifications
CPA-K qualification or equivalent
Membership to ICPAK in good standing
Management course lasting not less than 4 weeks
Proficiency in computer applications
Fulfil requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya
Experience
At least 15 years’ relevant work experience in accounting, financial reporting, or auditing
Minimum 3 years at Assistant Manager or comparable senior position, preferably in insurance/reinsurance
Demonstrated knowledge and application of IFRS in preparation of financial statements
Other Requirements

Superior planning, organising, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Strong analytical, report writing, and presentation skills
Demonstrated team leadership and stakeholder management abilities
Sound knowledge of auditing concepts, governance frameworks, internal controls, and risk management principles
