Kenya Red Cross Society Lecturer/Instructor (Food Photography) Jobs; Reporting to the Culinary Lead, the Instructor of Food Photography is responsible for planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating food photography training. The role combines culinary knowledge, food styling, photography, lighting, composition, digital imaging, and visual communication skills to enable learners to professionally photograph food and culinary products for menus, cookbooks, magazines, social media, advertising, portfolios, and hospitality businesses.


Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Develop and deliver theoretical and practical lessons in food photography.

  • Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching materials, and demonstrations.

  • Teach principles of photography (camera operations, exposure, composition, lighting, depth of field).

  • Demonstrate techniques for photographing different food types.

  • Facilitate practical sessions in kitchens, studios, and restaurants.

  • Guide students in developing professional food photography portfolios.

  • Encourage creativity, experimentation, and professional standards.


    Food Styling & Presentation

  • Teach principles of food styling for photography.

  • Demonstrate plating and presentation techniques.

  • Guide learners in selecting props, backgrounds, and surfaces.

  • Emphasize ethical and professional approaches to food styling.

  • Collaborate with culinary instructors to ensure food is suitable for photography.


    Assessment & Student Evaluation

  • Develop assessments for theory and practical skills.

  • Evaluate assignments, projects, portfolios, and exams.

  • Provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate records.

  • Identify students needing additional support.


    Curriculum Development

  • Contribute to development and review of food photography curricula.

  • Ensure course content reflects current industry practices.

  • Recommend improvements to facilities, equipment, and resources.


    Industry & Professional Engagement

  • Maintain awareness of trends in food photography and culinary media.

  • Build professional relationships with chefs, photographers, and media organizations.

  • Organize guest lectures, workshops, and industry visits.

  • Encourage industry‑based projects and assignments.


    Student Guidance & Mentorship

  • Provide academic and career guidance to students.

  • Mentor learners in portfolio development.

  • Support participation
    in competitions and exhibitions.


    Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate teaching, attendance, and assessment records.

  • Contribute to open days, exhibitions, and institutional events.

  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications & Professional Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Culinary Arts, Food Photography, Hospitality, Food Media, or Visual Communication.

  • Teaching/training qualification (advantage).

  • Professional experience in food photography, styling, or culinary media.

  • Practical competence in digital photography and image editing.

  • Experience in teaching, training, or mentoring preferred.

  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and culinary presentation.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
