Our client, Kenya Power and Lighting Company is a well-established and recognized leader in electricity distribution and retail in the region.

KPLC ¡s established as a limited liability company under the Companies Act, Cap 486, Laws of Kenya and is a State Corporation listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.

The Company’s key mandate is to purchase bulk electricity, supply, transmit, distribute and retail electricity to end-user customers throughout Kenya.

KPLC is at the forefront of spearheading accomplishment of Vision 2030.

KPLC is seeking to recruit an exceptional and visionary leader with good professional and ethical standing to fill the position of Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer will be the Principal Officer of the Board and will be responsible for overseeing all the strategic, operational and financial performance of the Company through effective management of the executive leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall day to day leadership and administration of operations of the Company under the guidance of the Board;
  • Develop and recommend to the Board short, medium and long term strategies, business plans, and annual operating budgets, while establishing proper internal monitoring and control systems and procedures;
  • Ensure continuous achievement of the Company’s financial and operating goals and objectives, while ensuring continuous improvements in the quality and value of services provided by the Company;
  • Develop and strengthen networks and partnerships with the government, the private sector, and development partners, while spearheading donor collaboration and fundraising for project implementation;
  • Advise the Board of Directors on operations, financial and investment planning and sustainable development of Company interests;
  • Direct and coordinate the Company’s operations and administration to ensure that the various divisions operate in conformity with the overall strategic plans and performance targets;
  • Ensure compliance with applicable statutory, legal and regulatory requirements and establish mitigation measures against emerging business risks;
  • Promote the Company’s image and develop good working relationship with all stakeholders and partners while promoting the principles of good governance in the Company; and
  • Maintain a conducive work environment for attracting, retaining and motivating employees while fostering a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporate citizenship.

    Person Specifications
  • Be holder of Bachelor’s Degree ¡n any of the following fields: Humanities and Arts, Business, Finance, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering, or related field gained from a recognized university;
  • A Master’s Degree in any of the fields above will be an added advantage;
  • Have
    not less than lo years’ relevant experience in senior management in a large organisation preferably in Commercial, Public and/ or Energy or related sector;
  • Be a member in good standing where registered with a relevant professional body;
  • Have knowledge and experience in working with government, shareholders and/or stakeholders including donors required; and
  • Certification in Corporate Governance and/or Leadership from recognised institution will be an added advantage.
  • Candidates will be required to satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 including:
  • Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations;
  • Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board;
  • Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority;
  • Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission; and
  • Report from an Approved Credit Reference Bureau.
