Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) is a chartered private University sponsored by the Methodist Church in Kenya.

The University has its main campus situated in the outskirts of Meru town with campuses at Nairobi and Mombasa.

We would wish to invite qualified applicants for the following position:

Librarian

Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Students Affairs) He/She will be responsible for the smooth running and coordination of all Library activities.

Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Advise the University Management Board and other governing bodies on matters pertaining to the library.
  • Formulate, review and implement library policies and procedures for smooth operations.
  • Prepare and monitor library budget to ensure appropriate allocation and efficient
    utilization of resources.
  • Oversee the acquisition of information resources to meet user needs.
  • Liaise with faculties, schools and respective directorates to promote and support research in the university
  • Provide professional leadership in the strategic planning and management of library facilities, equipment, space, information services and resources
  • Plan and coordinate staffing in the library, staff development and performance appraisal for effective service delivery
  • Foster compliance with the Commission for University Education Standards in the provision of library services
  • Develop, direct and evaluate library service quality for corrective measures and quality assurance
  • Foster professional affiliations, collaborations and networks with other institutions
    and professional bodies for value added information services
  • Secretary to the Library and Bookshop Committee meetings
  • Represent the library in Senate and Deans Committee
  • Prepare and submit library reports for decision making
  • Chair the library staff meetings

    Minimum Requirement

  • PhD in Information Studies/Science with 15 years working experience 3 of which should be as a Deputy University Librarian Scale MU 13 or its equivalent.
  • Should have published a minimum of three articles in peer reviewed journals.
  • Evidence of leadership and management training
  • A registered member of professional body
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Relevant competences in ICT applications, Library Management Systems and einformation
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission

    Credit Reference Bureau

  • Certificate of Good Conduct from Criminal Investigation Department
  • Letters of recommendation (in sealed envelopes) from at least three persons familiar with the applicant’s professional experience and general character one of whom must be the pastor of their local church.
