Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), a State Corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation was established by an Act of parliament (The Science and Technology Act Cap. 250 of the Laws of Kenya of 1979) which has since been repealed by The Science, Technology and Innovation Act No.28 of 2013.

Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute Socio-Economist Research Scientist Jobs

Responsibilities

An officer at this grade will be required to independently initiate and implement research projects; Duties and responsibilities at this cadre will include:-

  • Problem identification;
  • Formulating research project/ proposals;
    Study design;
  • Implementing research projects;
  • Engagement in inter-disciplinary research;
  • Preparing technical reports and scientific publications; using other methods to disseminate research findings in their areas of specialization;
  • Providing guidance to junior research scientists/interns in their areas of expertise;
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time..

    Requirements

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of C+ (Plus) or equivalent;
  • Bachelor’s honors degree or equivalent degree in any of the following fields: Aquatic or Fisheries Sciences, Biological or Physical Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Environmental studies, Geology, Sociology, Economics, Anthropology, Biometrics, Biotechnology; or any other aquatic, fisheries and other relevant disciplines from a recognized University;
  • Master’s degree in any
    of the following fields: Aquatic or Fisheries Sciences, Biological or Physical Sciences, Sociology, Economics, Biometrics, Environmental Studies; or equivalent;
  • PhD in any of the following fields: Marine or Fisheries Sciences, Biological or Physical Sciences, Sociology, Economics, Biometrics, Environmental Studies; or equivalent;

    Remuneration

    Basic salaries per cadre will be as follows:-

    Salary: 48,190-65,290
