  • The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) is a state corporation established under the KICD Act No.4 of 2013(amended 2019.) KICD is the successor of the Kenya Institute of Education (KIE) which was established in 1968 by the Education Act, Cap 211, of the laws of Kenya, and its legal status defined in the 1976 KIE Order, issued through Legal Notice No. 105 of 1976.

  • The KICD Governing Council is seeking to recruit a qualified and transformational leader with high professional and ethical standards to fill the position of Director/Chief Executive Officer. .

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the KICD Governing Council, the successful candidate shall be responsible for providing strategic leadership.

  • Spear heading the core mandate of the Institute in a professional and ethical manner, promoting corporate reputation and visibility and ensuring operational effectiveness and efficiency.

    In addition, the Director/Chief Executive Officer shall be expected to:

    • Facilitate improvement in the quality and responsiveness of regulatory frameworks adopted by the Institute;

    • Provide leadership and steer the curriculum reform process

    • Develop and recommend to the Council the long-term corporate strategy, operational plans and annual operating budgets;

    • Ensure prudent management of assets and financial resources and accountability through effective internal control measures and monitoring:

    • Ensure achievement of the Institute's vision, mission, operating goals and objectives

    • Provide a conducive work environment that attracts, retains and motivates skilled and talented employees;

    • Foster a corporate culture that promotes implementation of ethical and good corporate governance practices.

    • Promote an effective risk management culture and ensure compliance with relevant legal, regulatory and policy frameworks;

    • Manage networks and engagement with various stakeholders; and

    • Enhance the corporate brand and image of KICD.

    Academic Qualifications and Experience;

    For appointment to the position of the Chief Executive Officer/Director, a candidate shall be expected to:

    • Hold at least a postgraduate degree in education from a university recognized in Kenya;

    • Have a bachelor's degree in Education or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;

    • Have at least 10 years relevant experience at senior management level in the Education sector:

    • Demonstrate excellent leadership and governance skills

    • Have good understanding of the mandate of KICD and its role in realization of the National Development Agenda;

    • Be computer literate,

    Be a citizen of Kenya;

    • Demonstrate managerial, administrative, and professional competence in work performance and results:

    Other Mandatory Requirements

    In addition to academic qualifications and experience referred to herein above, all interested applicants must have valid copies of the following statutory requirements:

    • A Certificate of Good Conduct issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations;

    • Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board;

    • Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority:

    • Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission; and

    • Certificate of clearance from a registered Credit Reference Bureau showing that the Applicant has no negative listing

    Terms of Service and Remuneration

    • The Successful Candidate will be employed on a five (5) year' contractual period which, subject to satisfactory performance, shall be renewable once. Remuneration attached to this position shall be in accordance to Section 14(1) of the KICD Act, No. 4 of 2013 (revised 2019) as read with the provisions of section 5(3) of the State Corporations Act, Cap 446 and as determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
