Kenya Forest Services Chief Conservator of Forests Jobs in Kenya Kenya Forest Service (KFS) is a State Corporation established by the Forest Conservation & Management Act of 2016.

Service is mandated to conserve, develop and sustainably manage forests and allied resources for environmental suitabilility and the social-economic development of the people of Kenya.

In line with the provisions of the Forest Act and Mwongozo Code of Governance for State Corporations, the Service wishes to recruit a competent and qualified person to fill the position of the Chief Conservator of Forests

Duties and responsibilities:

Reporting to the KFS Board of Directors and shall:

  • Be responsible for day to day management of the Service and provide strategic leadership to senior management. staff and policy directives.
  • Be responsible for formulation implementation and achievement of the Service' Mission,Vision and Strategic goals.
  • Be responsible for execution and communication of the Board's strategies. decisions and policies and further serve as a link between the Board and Management.
  • Provide regular. thorough and prompt communication to the Board on key technical, financial and administrative matters.
  • Be responsible for stakeholder management and the enhancement of corporate image of the Service
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date National forest information systems. plans and management systems.
  • Be responsible for approval of Forest Management Plans and licensing of forest operations.
  • Collaborate with research institutions in identifying research needs and applying research findings.
  • Promote National interests and compliance in relation to International forest conventions and principles.
  • Advise on establishment of determination and management of National forests as well as provisional forests in consultation with the forest owners.
  • Be responsible for implementation of corporate policies and strategies to ensure that the corporate vision and mission are realized.
  • Oversee effective management of human capital for optimal productivity.
  • Act as the principal spokesperson of the Service ensuring its policies, vision, mission and services are positively understood by all stakeholders
  • Oversee the development and implementation of suitable performance management metrics and reporting structures to achieve set performance targets.
  • Oversee the management of the Kenya Forestry College xvi, Ensure all business systems, processes and operations are effective and comply with applicable statutory provisions.
  • Manage the overall corporate risk while facilitating improvement in each functional area. to balance budgets and resource mix in order to provide the best return on investment in line with organizational growth.
  • Grow and efficiently manage the Service's resources for sustainable corporate growth andlong term viability

    In order to be considered the applicant must:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen
  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Forestry from a recognized university
  • Having a Master's degree in Forest Management, Natural Resource Management, and Environmental Management/ Studies from a recognized university is an added advantage.
  • Have at least fifteen (15) years' experience and knowledge in the field of forestry. out of which ten years (10) must have been professionally served at management level within a large reputable organization in the Public sector.
  • Be a member of the Forestry Society of Kenya (FSK) or a similar professional body in good standing is an added advantage vi. Possess high ethical standards, integrity, accountability, professionalism, teamwork and stewardship, and comply with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya
    2010.
  • Have been cleared by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
  • Have a valid Certificate of Good Conduct. ix, Have been cleared by the Ethics and Anti-corruption commission (EACC).
  • Have a valid Tax Compliance Certificate.
  • Have a valid credit report from a licensed Kenyan Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

  • Be able to motivate staff, resilient and able to put the Service on a sound financial footing. largely independent of Government support.
  • Be passionate. able to recognize policy trade-offs resulting from sustainable management and public good elements of conservation as well as initiate and manage change aimed at reforming the Service.
