Our client, the Kenya Cultural Centre wishes to recruit a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will be responsible to the Council for the day to day management and coordination of activities in the Centre.

Functions

The Office of the Executive Director/ CEO is responsible for following functions:

  • Co-ordinate and oversee the provision of the Centre for the use and enjoyment of the citizens of Kenya without distinction of race or creed;
  • Provide for the performance of music, drama and dancing, tor the exhibition of works of art and craft;
  • Forge regional and global strategic alliances and institutional linkages;
  • Provide the Centre for holding meetings for discussion of matters of literary, historical, scientific or educational interest of importance
  • Provide such other purposes generally as may be approved by the Council, not being incompatible with the objects here in before expressed.
  • Guide in the development of relevant national policies and legislation in regard to culture;
  • Responsible for the implementation of all the decisions of the Council;
  • Facilitate the preparation and implementation of the Council’s strategic and annual work plans;
  • Oversee the implementation of KCC’s policies and plans governing the Centre in liaison with the Council and other relevant authorities;
  • Facilitate regular reporting on the status of Kenya Cultural Centre;
  • Forster relationship with development partners and stakeholders for the benefit of the cultural conservation;
  • Ensuring prudent management of all available resources;
  • Foster conducive corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good governance in line with the Constitution of Kenya;
  • Create a corporate environment that attracts, retains and motivates employees to perform.
  • Manage the budget of the Council to ensure that its funds are properly expended and accounted for;
  • Provide leadership in the development of the Council’s programs and assures quality program and organizational stability through development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures, regular evaluation and performance management system;

    Job Specification
  • This is the senior most position in the Centre. The Executive Director/ CEO is responsible to the Governing Council (Council) for the day to day management and coordination of activities in the Centre.

    The duties and responsibilities entail;

  • Ensuring development and review of policies, strategic plan, business plan and work plan.
  • Responsible for day-to-day running of the Centre.
  • Advising the Council on all policies and strategies relating to management of the cultural heritage
  • Ensuring proper interpretation and implementation of the Council’s decisions;
  • Monitoring implementation of Council decisions and appraising the Council on progress;
  • Ensuring linkage of Centre staffing to Organizational objectives;
  • Providing leadership in developing, reviewing and implementing KCC’s strategic plans and ensuring its compliance with the Constitution,
  • Kenya vision 2030 and other prevailing government policies;
  • Ensuring effective implementation of the mandate of the Centre
  • Ensuring development and implementation of policies,
    strategies and internal control systems for delivery of effective and quality service to internal and external clients;
  • Ensuring development and implementation of an effective performance management framework for delivering the key priorities of KCC.
  • Leading in change management;
  • Effectively mobilizing resources for KCC activities.
  • Ensuring prudent management of KCC resources.
  • Planning, directing and coordinating the administrative and office support of the Centre;
  • Coordinating and preparing business related proposal and resource mobilization for the Centre
  • Establishing partnerships and collaborations with the National Government and other development partners in the counties;
  • Ensuring effective communication between management and the Council, as well as between different levels of management and stakeholders;
  • Providing leadership and fostering teamwork among employees;
  • Ensuring continuous achievement of the KCC financial and operations strategic objectives in line with its uniqueness;
  • Managing corporate risk.
  • Initiating development of strategic partnerships and collaborations.
  • Ensuring development and approval of the budget.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory obligations.
  • Fostering a culture that promotes ethical practice within the Centre.
  • Ensuring succession management and employee growth and development.
  • Any other duty as may be assigned by the Council

    Person Specification
  • A minimum period of seven (7) years’ relevant work experience, five (5) years of which must be in Senior Management;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or any related field from a recognized University;
  • Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Education,
  • Performing Arts or Business Administration is an added advantage.
  • Professional qualification and membership to a professional body where applicable;
  • Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Proficiency in computer application
  • Have knowledge and a clear understanding of the Creative economy
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of local, national and international conventions and treaties governing creative economy
  • Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
