Kenya Airways Aviation Plating Shop Technician – Production (Technical Workshop) Jobs ;The Aviation Plating Shop Technician will carry out electroplating and surface treatment processes on aircraft components in line with approved maintenance procedures and aviation standards, ensuring airworthiness, corrosion protection and dimensional restoration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electroplating operations (cadmium, nickel, chrome) per engineering requirements.

  • Prepare components by cleaning, degreasing, masking and finishing prior to plating.

  • Operate and maintain plating tanks, rectifiers and solution chemistry.

  • Monitor bath composition and adjust parameters (pH, temperature, concentration).

  • Conduct anodizing, passivation, chemical etching and conversion coating (Alodine).

  • Interpret technical drawings, repair schemes and specifications (AMS, MIL, OEM).

  • Record work in job cards, plating logs and component history documents.

  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections using gauges, micrometers or NDT.

  • Adhere to safety and environmental protocols in handling hazardous chemicals.

  • Assist in bath maintenance, waste treatment and chemical testing.

    Skills

  • Skilled in bath control and solution maintenance.

  • Familiarity with corrosion prevention and rework standards.

  • Precision and attention to detail.

  • Safety consciousness and proper PPE use.

  • Strong documentation and communication skills.

    Qualifications

  • Diploma in Electroplating, Applied Sciences, Aircraft Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Minimum 3 years’ aerospace plating or surface finishing experience.

  • Aircraft maintenance licence (advantageous).

  • NASF training (CEF – Certified Electroplater Finisher).

  • Safety or HazMat handling certifications.

  • Awareness of EASA or military aviation plating requirements.

  • Familiarity with AMS 2404 (Nickel), AMS 2401 (Cadmium), MIL‑DTL‑5541 (Conversion Coating).

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025, AS9100 quality systems.

    Experience

  • Minimum 3 years in aviation or aerospace machine shop environment.
