Job Summary
Ensure accurate cargo weighing, recording and reporting by operating weighing systems in accordance with established procedures, aviation safety requirements and cargo handling standards.
Maintain integrity of weight information, cargo documentation and system records while ensuring compliance with operational, safety and quality requirements.
Support efficient cargo operations through accurate weight capture, discrepancy management and effective shift handovers.
Key Responsibilities
Cargo Weighing & Weight Verification
Inspect scale serviceability, calibration status and safety of the weighing area before commencement of operations.
Report scale faults, calibration issues and safety concerns immediately to the appropriate personnel.
Operate weighing equipment according to approved procedures and safety standards.
Ensure accurate weight capture for all cargo consignments.
Use automated weight capture systems for recording cargo weights.
Apply manual weight entry or system overrides only through approved and documented contingency procedures.
Cargo Documentation & Information Verification
Verify correct Unit Load Device (ULD) or pallet tare weights before cargo weighing.
Confirm shipment information, including Air Waybill (AWB) details, number of pieces, destination and commodity classifications.
Ensure all cargo information corresponds with operational and system records.
Maintain accurate and complete cargo documentation and records.
Weight Reporting & Control
Generate weight dockets and related cargo documents promptly.
Route completed weight documentation to the relevant operational departments within established timelines.
Monitor weighing records for accuracy and completeness.
Support compliance with cargo handling and aviation reporting requirements.
Discrepancy Management & Escalation
Reweigh shipments where inconsistencies or unusual variances are identified.
Escalate weight differences, discrepancies or deviations of 120 kilograms or more before final weight statements are issued.
Support investigation and
resolution of weighing anomalies.
Maintain records of discrepancies and corrective actions taken.
Shift Handover & Reporting
Record corrections, operational issues, equipment faults and pending activities during shift handovers.
Prepare concise operational reports and updates.
Ensure continuity of operations through complete and accurate handover documentation.
Maintain secure and confidential operational records.
Qualifications
Certificate or Diploma in Logistics, Aviation, Warehousing, ICT, Data Operations or a related field.
Additional qualifications in aviation operations, cargo management or logistics will be an added advantage.
Training in weighing procedures and cargo handling operations is desirable.
Experience
Experience in cargo operations, warehouse operations, aviation logistics or supply chain operations is an advantage.
Experience using cargo management systems, warehouse management systems (WMS) or related operational platforms is desirable.
Experience handling operational documentation and cargo records is beneficial.
