KEMRI / US Army Medical Research Directorate – Kenya is a research organization that is affiliated to the Kenya Medical Research Institute.

Our mission is to develop and test improved means for predicting, detecting, preventing and treating infectious diseases.

We seek to fill the following position:

Title: Senior Human Resources Manager

Job Summary:

  • Reporting to the Chief of Staff, this position will oversee human resources function at USAMRD-K and act as a liaison with KEMRI in all personnel related matters.
  • The incumbent will be stationed in Nairobi with frequent visits to Projects in Kisumu and Kericho.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all employment practices, compensation, employee benefits, and human resources programs are within established standards, procedures, guidelines, and policies.
  • Ensure that USAMRD-K maintains a compensation and benefits package that is equitable and competitive.
  • Coordinate the human resources planning process and facilitate staff recruitment and selection process.
  • Manage the process of staff appointments and separation.
  • Develop and implement staff induction programmes.
  • Coordinate performance management process to ensure that it is effectively linked to staff development programmes.
  • Work with teams and departments in identifying training and development needs.
  • Facilitate periodic review and update of Human Resources policies and procedures in line with changes in the regulatory and labor environment.
  • Provide administrative support, which includes maintenance of personnel records, payroll administration, processing of staff benefits and management of retirement benefits scheme.
  • Preparation and control of human resource budgets.
  • Ensure that USAMRD-K has a healthy workforce through a well-managed health and group life policy, safe working environment, effective management of disciplinary and grievance issues, and effective communication processes.
  • Facilitate manpower analysis and reporting.
  • Advise managers on all employee relation matters (ensuring problems are dealt with speedily and at the lowest possible level, in accordance with laid down policies).
  • Monitor and analyze human resources data which include turnover rates, absence, etc, and report the
    same to management with recommendations for future action.
  • Oversee internship programme in coordination with heads of departments.
  • Perform any other relevant duty as may be assigned from time to time by the management.

    Requirements:

  • Degree in Human Resource Management or Business Administration.
  • Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management.
  • Over 5 year’s progressive experience as a Human Resource Manager.
  • Must be a registered member of Institute of Human Resources Management.
  • Should possess technical skills, soft skills, hard skills, interpersonal and management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and excellent inter-personal skills.
  • Knowledge of the labor legislation governing the labor market.
  • Leadership through influence and effective conflict resolution.
  • Should have a good track record and of unquestionable integrity.

    Additional Requirements:

    Evidence of having satisfied the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010; provide the following:

  • KRA Certificate of Tax compliance
  • Certificate from Credit Reference Bureau.
  • Police Clearance Certificate.
  • Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
  • Certificate of clearance from HELB.

    Terms of Employment:

  • One (1) year renewable contract.
  • Probation period for the first three (3) months
  • Remuneration: The salary is based on KEMRI salary scale.
