Position Summary

The successful candidate will oversee the BOHEMIA store at KEMRI Kwale and will implement best record keeping and storage practices. They will be involved in receiving equipment/materials, managing inventory, conducting follow up on equipment when needed and communicating effectively with the management and fieldworker team.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience as a storeroom attendant (or a similar type of position) with a demonstrated track-record in handling and organising inventory with highest degree of integrity and professionalism.

Job Specification

  • Record and track the inventory of all stored items;

  • Maintain an active registry, updating records to register supplies and materials received and dispensed;

  • Conduct physical inventory checks on a routine schedule;

  • Verify inventory records and correct discrepancies;

  • Distribute storeroom materials in accordance with requisition forms or other;

  • Alert project manager when items need to be re-ordered and when anomalies/breakages are registered;

  • Ensure the storeroom is kept clean and orderly;

  • Other tasks as directed by the project manager team.

    Person Specification

    • KCSE mean grade D+ or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

    • Minimum of a Certificate in procurement, supply chain, records management or any related field

    Key Skills and Competencies

    • Excellent English and Kiswahili communication skills;

    • Proficient computer skills with the ability to update and maintain a computer inventory register;

    • Ability to write and prepare packing
    slips and labels;

    • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills;

    • Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking skills;

    • Excellent time management, prioritization and organizational skills;

    • Demonstrated adaptability and ability to manage a rapidly changing environment;

    • Experience with Microsoft Office;

    • Experience developing an inventory control system will be an added advantage; and

    • Experience with environmental or health research or program is an added advantage.

    Desired Qualities

    • Have at least one (1) year experience as a storeroom attendant (or a similar type of position);

    • Demonstrated track-record in handling and organising inventory with highest degree of integrity and professionalism;

    • Ability to lift and carry heavy and/or cumbersome items;

    • Ability to work under tight timelines and in a fast paced environment; and

    • Must be a Kwale resident and proficiency in a Mijikenda language.
