It involves conducting research and
program support for activities related to malaria, HIV, EBV and other diseases.
The project has the following vacancy in the laboratory
The purpose of this job is to support research through the management of laboratory operations and coordination of laboratory activities of ongoing research projects.
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Biotechnology, Biomedical Science or any relevant Biological
Science degree from a recognized university.
Must have a minimum of one years’ experience in a busy research laboratory
Good knowledge of GCLP, laboratory documentation, record keeping and inventory
Must have prior experience in basic molecular techniques such as DNA & RNA extraction, performing polymerase chain reaction; qRT-PCR.
Must have prior experience in basic serological techniques such as ELISA.
Proficient in statistical analysis software such as SPSS, STATA or R
Excellent management skills and a track record of team leadership
Proficiency in basic computer applications
Ability to work long hours
Attention to details and good work ethics
Responsibilities and Specific Tasks
The Research Scientist will be expected to: -
In consultation with Principal Investigators, plan, organize, coordinate and supervise laboratory operations.
Implement research projects and/or supervise designated aspects of the work
Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), equipment repair and maintenance.
Supervise handling of samples; processing, and inventorying to ensure integrity of samples for both ongoing and repository research projects.
Participate in interpretation and validation of results
Assist research study staff with the preparation and submission of documents to SERU as required for implementation of lab-related research procedures and initiation of international shipments.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of laboratory staff, schedule and assign work and
Provide technical guidance and expertise to PI and laboratory staff as needed or requested.
Ensure compliance with current biosafety, biosecurity, good clinical and laboratory
practice (GCLP) and ethical requirements.
Coordinate all regulatory and compliance activities and training requirements for the laboratory.
Maintain inventory of laboratory documents and records, including but not limited to SOPs and test results.
Oversee annual review of laboratory SOPs and initiate updates as needed.
Identify, trouble-shoot and solve problems in a timely manner.
Ship biological samples according to IATA regulations.
Attend and actively participate in regular management meetings and internal scientific
Perform any other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
