KEMRI Laboratory Technologist - Kisumu Jobs in Kenya; The Laboratory Technologist will support research and clinical trial activities by collecting, processing, labeling, storing, and transporting biological specimens in line with study protocols, SOPs, and Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP). The role involves maintaining laboratory documentation, conducting quality control, managing inventory, and ensuring biosafety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Specimen Management

  • Collect, process, label, store, and transport biological specimens per protocol.

  • Maintain specimen inventory logs, tracking systems, and chain‑of‑custody documentation.

    Quality Control & Assurance

  • Conduct routine laboratory quality control and assurance procedures.

  • Review laboratory data for completeness and accuracy; resolve discrepancies.

    Inventory & Supplies

  • Monitor laboratory inventory and assist with forecasting, ordering, and tracking supplies.

  • Ensure proper documentation of consumables and stock levels.

    Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure adherence to biosafety, infection prevention, waste management, and occupational health procedures.

  • Comply with study protocols, institutional policies, GCLP, GCP, and regulatory requirements.

    Collaboration & Support

  • Participate in study meetings, trainings, and quality improvement activities.

  • Support audits, inspections, and protocol trainings.

  • Perform other study‑related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, or related field (Mandatory).

  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLLTB) (Mandatory).

  • Additional training in HIV testing or molecular diagnostics an advantage.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a laboratory technologist, preferably in clinical or research settings (Mandatory).

  • Familiarity with GCLP and research protocols required.

    Skills & Competencies

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Knowledge of biosafety and infection prevention practices.
