Project description

BOHEMIA (Broad One-Health Endectocide-based Malaria Intervention in Africa) is a Unitaid
funded project affiliated to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) conducting a cluster
randomised controlled trial (cRCT) to evaluate ivermectin mass drug administration (MDA) to
humans and cattle for malaria prevention trial in Kwale county.

The project’s local implementing partner is KEMRI, through Kwale and Kilifi KEMRI Centers. The project is seeking to appoint a driver to support the field team based in Kwale county.

Position: Driver (1 position)

Job Grade: KMR 10

Location: Kwale,

Reporting to: Project Manager of BOHEMIA

Position summary

The candidate will be expected to support all required transport needs using an assigned vehicle.
The ideal candidate will have experience as a driver in similar setting.

Job Specification

• Driving vehicles as authorized.
• Carrying out routine checks on the vehicle.
• Detecting and report malfunctioning of vehicles system
• Maintain records of vehicles
• Ensuring security and safety of the vehicle.
• Overseeing safety of the passengers and or goods therein.
• Maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle
• Ensuring adherence to or observations of traffic laws.
• Reporting any incidents to police and/or the office immediately they occur.
• Adherence to institutional guidelines on vehicle usage.

Person specification

• Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade of D+ or its equivalent qualification
from a recognized institution.
• Valid driving license free from any current endorsements and valid for any of the classes
of vehicles which the officer is required to drive.
• Passed the Suitability Test for Drivers Grade III.
• Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya police.
• Experience as a driver in similar settings.
• Experience working in Kwale and knowledge of local road networks.
• Good spoken English and Kiswahili, knowledge of other local languages desirable but not
essential.
• Availability and willingness to work outside working hours if requested.

• The ideal candidate will also have a high degree of integrity, discipline and work ethic.

Terms of Employment

  • One (1) year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first
    3 months. Salary is payable within the stated job grade
