This project is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention. It involves conducting research and program support for activities
related to Malaria, HIV, TB and other infectious diseases.

It is within this remit that the program
has a vacancy in the Division of Global Health Program Influenza Study – Maternal Infant
Surveillance Platform.

Position: Community Health Worker ,Job Group KMR 8 (7 positions)

Location: Siaya.

Reports to: Field Supervisor

Essential Requirements

  • A Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Community Health Development, Nutrition or
    any other Social Sciences from recognized institutions.
  • 1 year working experience doing community work
  • Having worked in a maternal, new born and child health program is an added advantage
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative data collection
  • Basic computer skills in MS suites
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili

    Desirable qualities:

  • Must be willing to reside within Study Area
  • Experience with recruiting, training, supervision or management of community health
    volunteers
  • Ability to speak and write in Luo language.
  • Flexible and willing to work extra hours including weekends and public holidays
  • Work under minimal supervision and be a team player.
  • Ability to work with data collection netbooks.
  • Specific Tasks and responsibilities: The field technologist shall include and not limited to the
    following:
  • Participant’s mobilization both at the community and ANC clinics
    Consenting and recruiting eligible participants into the study.
  • Conduction weekly follow ups
  • Data entry in the netbooks and filing of source documents
  • Timely query resolutions
  • Collection of cord
    blood and placenta tissues
  • Supplies management
  • Keep clean and comprehensive records of study visits and outcomes
  • Adhere strictly to the project deadlines for completion of duties assigned
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor
  • Terms of Employment: Fixed term contract for 4 months.

    Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on education levels,
    relevant experience and demonstrated competency.

    The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI
    scales plus supplemental amounts.
