A collaborative research Project between KEMRI and the University of New Mexico (UNM),
USA, titled “Snail-Related Studies of Transmission and Control of Schistosomiasis...” hosted at the Centre for Biotechnology Research and Development (CBRD), seeks to fill the position of Assistant Research Officer (MR9), to be based in Kisumu at KEMRI’s Centre for Global Health Research (CGHR), Kisian, where the field operations of the Project are located.

Reporting to the Project PI, the successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical or Molecular Sciences from a recognized University
  • At least 1 year research experience in molecular aspects of Parasitology, as evidenced
    by scientific publications
  • Experience working on snail-related aspects of schistosomiasis or other snail-borne
    infections, will be an added advantage

  • Leadership skills and ability to work effectively under minimal supervision
  • A team player, and ability to work in a culturally diverse, environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in and support, on-going research activities associated with the Project
  • Develop and implement own research project centred around snail-related aspects of
    schistosomiasis, under the guidance and direction of senior investigators on the Project
  • Ensure that on-going routine and experimental activities, are performed in a timely
    manner, and as per standard operating procedures, and that any challenges or unusual
    events encountered, are promptly, reported to the PI
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the PI

    Terms and Conditions of Employment:

  • One (1) year contract,
    renewable, subject to satisfactory performance, and availability of
    funds
  • Salary and benefits are based on KEMRI’s terms for contract staff for the position
