KEMRI Air pollution Laboratory Technician and Analyst - Jobs in Kenya
•The post holder will integral to the ACE air pollution measurement and analysis Hub. The technical role will include processing of gravimetric filters (weighing and standardization) used for sampling air pollution controlled with the latest Automated Gravimetric Filter Weighing System Robot.
•The Robot is installed in a state-of-the-art processing facility with controlled atmospheric conditions. The filters are used to measure fine particulate matter (PM2.5) from air pollution at the highest level of precision, a pollutant highly detrimental to health.
•The technical role will also include the careful management (including calibration, preparation and audit) of equipment used for measuring air pollution in the field that will be housed at the ACE including Ultrasonic Particle Air Samplers (UPAS) – for measuring PM2.5 (with the gravimetric filters), LASCAR CO Monitors, GEOCENE Stove Use Monitors (SUMS) and other related equipment.
•The analytic role will include data manipulation, cleaning and preparation of air pollution samples and
some statistical analysis.
•The role will include quality assurance of data collected in the field and
processed at the ACE. The technician will also provide training to students and fieldworkers in
collection of air pollution data.
•The post holder will ideally have some knowledge or direct experience of working in the field of Air Pollution (at the household level and/or ambient air pollution).
•He/she should be diligent, competent, and precise in handling samples to generate high quality data and should be able to demonstrate technical expertise relevant to the post. The post holder will be responsible for maintaining all air pollution equipment (e.g. UPAS, Lascars) at the Hub facility and for supporting the research conducted by the CLEAN-Air(Africa) Unit to associate air pollution sampling to health. The post holder will report to the CLEAN-Air(Africa) Director for KEMRI.
Core responsibilities
