KANCO Nutrition and ECD Financing Consultancy Jobs in Kenya


Introduction

KANCO is regional membership network of organizations including: Non - Governmental Organization (NGOs), Community Based Organization (CBOs), Faith Based Organization (FBOs), Private Sector, Research and Learning Institutions responding to HIV & AIDS and TB in Kenya.

The Malabo Declaration, the African Union Agenda 2063; “the Africa we want”, the Africa Regional Nutrition Strategy (ARNS) and the Africa Renewed Initiative on Stunting Elimination (ARISE) have been geared towards meeting the continental Commitment.

There are also the global nutrition commitments on nutrition as stipulated in the second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN-2), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Nutrition for Growth (N4G) and the World Health Assembly Nutrition Targets. Malnutrition contributes to over 50 percent of child mortality according to World Health Organization global report of 2010.

Policy Environment on Nutrition in Kenya

The Constitution of Kenya 2010 under the bill of rights recognizes the importance of nutrition Article 43 1(c), gives rights to be free from hunger and access to adequate food of acceptable quality including good nutrition to children 53; 1(c).Further, the Country in its Food and Nutrition security policy 2012 (FSNP) aims at improving nutritional outcomes through sustainable agricultural interventions in cognizance with the devolved system of government.

Kenya’s Vision 2030

and Sustainable Development Goal 2 (target 2.2) calls for ending all forms of malnutrition by 2030, which includes achieving, by 2025, internationally agreed upon targets on stunting and wasting in children under 5 years of age, and addressing the nutritional needs of adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in public health, Nutrition or equivalent.
  • Five (5) year’s experience in policy analysis and a good mastery of the policy environment in respect to financing of nutrition.
  • 5 years experience in nutrition work in Kenya with a good understanding of the nutrition landscape.
  • Having worked or interacted with the nutrition sector is an added advantage.
