About the Role
As Communications Manager, you will lead tax Justice Network Africa's (TJNA) newly designed Communications Department to oversee the implementation of their Communications strategy.

This role is key in creating, driving, and setting the tone for the organization's external and internal messaging whilst reflecting TJNA’s values and leading their communications team.

You will strategically collaborate closely with the Capacity Building and Knowledge Management department, the Strategy and Engagement unit, and, the Policy Research and Advocacy department to identify priorities and set the direction for communication initiatives.

Location: Flexible, with frequent travel to Nairobi, Kenya office

Line Manager: Executive Director

Start date: As soon as possible

Contract Duration: 2 years, renewable

In This Role, You Will:

  • Develop and execute a strong communications action plan and initiatives based on the communications strategy objectives and TJNA’s overall strategic plan.
  • Direct and ensure all channels of communications are properly positioned within TJNA’s diverse audience forums across the continent and that campaign strategies are well aligned for meaningful engagement.
  • Build and oversee the management of the communications unit with skilled staff to support the department’s objectives and expectations.
  • Cultivate relationships with media professionals and relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage the growth of TJNA’s audience base with increased outreach.
  • Manage the communications budget.
  • Ensure quality control of all communications.


    Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree in communications, journalism, public relations or relevant field. (Masters is strongly preferred.)
    Core Skills and Experience

  • At least seven years of professional experience, with 5 years in a leadership role at senior management level.

  • Proven track record in the management of teams, especially remote diverse teams.
    Proven experience in strategic communications, crisis communications, implementation of successful campaigns and messaging for multi layered audiences.

  • Proficiency with communications technologies and use of tools like Meltwater.

  • Understanding of the development context in Africa including a good understanding of Civil Society environment in
    Africa and globally.

  • Highly articulate and bilingual in English and French, with excellent writing and presentation skills.

  • Proven experience in planning, budgeting and resource allocation.

  • You are personable, flexible, creative, a team player, and an analytic thinker.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage activities simultaneously and meet deadlines, with attention to detail and quality.

  • Experience working in civil societies and international NGOs is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with and commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.

  • Willing to travel, expected travel less than 25% of the time.
