JOOUST Postdoctoral Researcher in Social Entrepreneurship and Grassroots Financial Innovations Jobs

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) has received funding from DANIDA to
undertake research in Social Entrepreneurship and Grassroots Financial Innovations.

The project aims to develop theory at the intersection of social entrepreneurship, monetary theory and urban studies
through qualitative and participatory methodologies.

The project activities will be informed by the existing innovative
social entrepreneurship and financial practices in the informal settlements of Kenya’s three major cities (Mombasa,
Nairobi and Kisumu).

Basis for Assessment

Particular emphasis will be on the following:

Academic merits, particularly at the PhD level

Copies of Master and PhD theses (with special importance attached to the PhD thesis)

The submitted research plan on strategies to promote economic development in an urban informal settlement.

Other merits and distinctions which attest to the applicant’s ability to actively undertake the project activities
alongside other researchers in the project.

Applicants must possess very high proficiency in English, in speech and writing. Knowledge to interact with residents
in informal settlements is a strong merit.

Type of scholarship

The Post-Doctoral position will be a two-year full-time engagement in the project research activities.

However, a
contract will be drawn for one year and may be renewed once based on progress reports. The

scholarhip has an
attarctive monthly stipends to the successful candidate.
