Job Description

Duties and responsibilities

  • Facilitate the implementation of Communication for Health’s Social and Behavior Change Interventions with enhanced reach and depth
  • Review and prepare support requirements and schedule based on social mobilization activities and action plans developed during the LIPs transition workshops
  • Facilitate and support selected woredas and schools in at least 50% in the Woreda to plan and implement school health SBCC interventions
    Support the cascading of religious leaders training in partnership with Woreda Health Offices, PHCUs and TOT participants
  • Support PHCUs and Schools in expanding health bazars and facilitate zone-wide cross-learning in undertaking health bazars
  • Liaise with Woreda and PHCU focal persons in conducting other SBCC interventions such as roadshows and sharing lessons
  • Facilitate and support wider implementation of media interventions
  • Follow up and support the implementation of radio listener’s groups in selected woredas
  • Support the proper use of videos developed around maternal, newborn and child health in outpatient waiting areas, maternity waiting homes and other venues as appropriate; with proper orientation/training of midwives and other health professionals on proper use of the videos
  • Promote, distribute and follow the use of mobile health application
  • Provide technical support to zone and woreda SBCC focal persons
  • Support zonal and woreda SBCC focal persons to undertake supportive supervision to PHCU levels at least once per year in each PHCU
  • Support zonal and woreda SBCC focal persons to collect data on SBCC interventions during supportive supervision and share to regional level public health structures and the project
  • Conduct monitoring of community level social mobilization activities to ensure that continued corrective actions and improvements are taken
  • Facilitate and take part in zone and woreda level review meetings
  • Support woredas to conduct annual review meetings
  • Facilitate and support PHCUs to take corrective actions and improvements resulting from review meetings
  • Reports
    to: Jointly to Regional Public Health Specialist of JSI Communication for Health Project and Zonal Health Department Head/ Deputy
  • Duty Stations: To be imbedded in selected zonal health departments of Amhara region (North Wollo, Waghimra, South Gondar & East Gojam); Oromia region (West Showa, West Arsi, Illu Ababora, East Harerge and South West Showa) and SNNP region (Gamogofa, Kembata & Hadiya and Wolaita)

    Job Requirements

    Required Qualifications/Experiences/Skills:

  • Minimum first degree in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition, Environmental Health or other related field; MPH is a clear advantage;
  • Minimum five years of experience in public health and particularly in social and behavior change communication;
  • Experience in behavioral change communication for health activities and campaigns;
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity building and technical skills in public health;
  • Willingness to work in and frequently travel to areas that may be remote with limited resources;
  • Experience in working with international NGOs and the public health sector;
  • Knowledge of English, Amharic is required; and knowledge of other local languages of the duty station is desirable.
