Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe Country Director Jobs in Kenya; Lead Johanniter International Assistance’s operations in Kenya and oversee programmes in Ethiopia and Somalia. Own the development and implementation of country strategies aligned with regional and global priorities. Manage funding, partnerships, compliance, and representation while ensuring effective programme delivery, staff safety, and organizational integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Vision

Develop and implement country strategies aligned with regional/global frameworks.

Promote diversity, inclusion, and continuous reflection in leadership culture.

Leadership & Management

Uphold Johanniter leadership principles and foster an accountable, inclusive work environment.

Ensure performance, compliance, and strategic oversight of Kenya office and operations in Ethiopia & Somalia.

Maintain effective communication between country, regional, and HQ levels.

Emergency Response

Own country emergency response planning and liaise with regional/HQ teams.

Support regional/global emergency responses as needed.

Programme Implementation & Reporting

Act as budget holder for country office.

Oversee programme and financial reporting, ensuring compliance and timely actions.

Human Resources & Team Management

Line manage national and international staff.

Promote team culture, accountability, and capacity building.

Ensure duty of care and staff wellbeing.

Networking & Fundraising

Serve as primary fundraiser for the

country programme.

Engage with donors, networks, and civil society to position Johanniter strategically.

Partnerships & Relationship Management

Lead partnerships with national and international actors, including consortia.

Safety & Security

Ensure staff safety and security through monitoring, analysis, and preventive measures.

Oversee development and implementation of Country Security Plans.

Communication & Advocacy

Lead external communication and advocacy at country level.

Enhance visibility and messaging in coordination with regional/HQ teams.

Safeguarding & Gender

Champion safeguarding and PSEAH prevention in strategies and operations.

Integrate Johanniter’s Gender Minimum Standards into programmes and budgets.

Qualifications

Education

Master’s Degree in Public Health or relevant field.

Experience

7+ years in humanitarian/development contexts, with 5+ years in leadership.

Proven experience in disaster response, programme development, and fundraising.

Strong external representation and networking skills.

Experience managing teams in complex, multi‑country contexts.

Skills

Strategic and analytical thinking with change management experience.

Strong people management and conflict resolution skills.

Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.

Willingness to travel and work in low‑security contexts.

Fluent in English; other languages an asset.
