Jesuit Refugee Service Safe Shelter Matron Jobs in Kenya; JRS has zero tolerance towards all forms of sexual exploitation and abuse and takes seriously all concerns and complaints about sexual exploitation and abuse against children and vulnerable adults by JRS personnel. JRS is committed to Safeguard children and vulnerable adults and has policies which outline the expected behaviour, code of conduct and responsibility of all persons acting on behalf of JRS (Staff, consultants, volunteers, interns, Pastoral team and other representatives). All staff working for JRS are expected to abide by these policies and guideline.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Work closely with the JRS Protection Coordinator and the Supervisor on managing the daily operation of the Safe Haven and ensure that clients’ needs are met.
Ensure safety of clients and to immediately report safety violations to security forces and Protection Coordinator.
Offer caring presence to the PoC’s who reside in Safe shelters.
Attend to individual needs of each client and organize group activities.
Ensure proper supervision and monitoring of the Safe shelter during night hours and day hours depending on duty.
keep records and ensure confidentiality of all work carried out in the program including ensuring that admission and discharge forms are collected and filed before a client is admitted or released by referring agencies, maintaining client files and writing daily handover reports.
Liaise with referring agencies, following up of the client’s cases, recording and reporting visits of referring agencies to beneficiaries and attend SGBV and other inter-agency meetings as required
Attend weekly Supervisors’ meetings for reporting and communication when requested
Assist in preparing and submitting weekly, monthly, mid-year and annual reports and other reports related to Safe Haven as required.
Ensuring cleanliness of the residence and allocating duties to the beneficiaries with specific emphasis on hygiene among the safe haven resident.
Keep clients records and ensure confidentiality of all work carried out including writing regular case updates for each client and recording daily handover reports.
Assess the medical needs of clients, ensure timely medical attention in cases of medical emergencies and to inform other Safe Shelter Matrons and patron and the Supervisor about any medical issues that should be followed up and facilitate access to medical care for Safe Shelter clients in the company of security officers.
Provide individual and group psychosocial support to the residents and recommend counselling cases to the Psychosocial counsellor.
Conduct conflict management and resolution among clients as needed and report when cases are unresolved and need attention of Protection Coordinator
To carry out other duties that may be assigned by the Protection Coordinator
Person Specification – Essential Requirements
(E) Qualification
Diploma/certificate qualification in a related field e.g. Psychology/counseling, gender and development studied,
nursing, aid, teaching, social work, art/play therapy, community development, child protection or related field and at least two years practical working experience preferably in a hospital, safe shelters, or school.
Experience as a nurse-aid will be an added advantage
Proven experience in managing people/teams.
Experience in working in the field of SGBV, women empowerment and child protection
Must be a female.
Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with marginalized and vulnerable communities and ability to work in an environment of relief emergency operation
Strong and practical skills in peace building and conflict resolution
Good knowledge of MS word/Office.
Excellent oral and written Kiswahili and English. Knowledge of another language in the camp such as French will be an added advantage
Ability to build effective partnership and collaborate with other team members.
Ability to work sensitively with vulnerable and refugee population of different ethnic background
(E) Skills
Very good pastoral sense and listening abilities and communication/inter-personal skills.
Good understanding of and commitment to humanitarian relief work and international development.
High degree of discretion, tact and confidentiality in dealing with internal and external clients and stakeholders at all levels.
Ability to positively influence others and successfully reconcile differences.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work in international settings and with various departments to implement successful approaches in Human Resources.

Good computer skills, including competence in Excel and familiarity with other databases.
Good organizational skills and ability to perform multifaceted tasks in addition to day-to-day activities.
Good analytical skills and sound judgement.
Successful experience in multicultural and challenging environments.
Willingness to work and travel to refugee settings in challenging environments.
