Operational Context/Role

The Education Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to coordinate and manage all JRS Adjumani Education activities in accordance with Uganda Government Education policies and procedures and the acceptable JRS International and Regional Education standards while liaising with District Education authorities and other partners and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement all the Education related activities in collaboration with the Project Director and in liaison with partner schools, Government and education working agencies.

  • Supervise and manage the education department team members in Adjumani.

  • Liaise with partner schools, agencies, and local authorities for better programming.

  • Participate in Education sector meetings at Adjumani level.

  • Monitor day-to-day education activities to ensure best practices and standards are adhered to.

  • Overseeing the administrative planning, implementation, and evaluation of the project’s procurement of education materials and supplies.

  • Support effective decision making and sustainability of the programme.

  • Strengthening project staff, community, and partner in education management capacity.

  • Carry out the Needs Assessment for the education programme and the preparation of the education proposals and reports in collaboration with the Project Director.

  • Design and coordinate training activities for the JRS education programme (like teacher/instructor trainings).

  • Keep an inventory of materials procured and supplied to schools.

  • Submit promptly all Education department narrative reports to the Project Director.

  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, mid-year, and annual reports to the Project Director.

  • Together with the education department, ensure effective teaching and learning takes place in all partner schools by participating in joint regular monitoring visits and inspections.

  • Identify capacity gaps and plans for remedy in education department.

  • Collaborate with other JRS departments and projects.

  • Participate in Education departmental planning, assessment, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation.

  • Responsible for the management of all education data and records.

  • Teach English for students when need arises.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Education

  • Advanced University degree, preferably in Education or any other related field

    Experience

  • At least three (03) years of professional international experience working with NGOs

  • Knowledge of and experience with project cycle management, strategic framework, log frames, etc.

  • Excellent project management skills with experience in managing and supervising projects

  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office 365 (Sharepoint, OneDrive, Teams)

  • Knowledge of and experience with basic financial management skills including developing and monitoring budgets
    and financial reporting

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, flexibility and adaptability

  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and promote effective teamwork also maintaining good relationships with multiple stakeholders

  • Strong management, analytical and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with marginalized communities

  • Previous experience with a faith-based NGO is a significant asset

    Languages

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.

  • A capacity to adapt to basic living and working conditions particularly to operate in a sub optimal working environment subject to power cuts / intermittent electricity.

  • Willing to work and live in the West Nile region.
