    Background:

    The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) is a center in the University of Washington’s Department of Global Health that works in partnership with the University of California, San Francisco.

    I-TECH has projects in more than 20 countries, and its worldwide staff work with local ministries of health, universities, non-governmental organizations, medical facilities, and other partners to support efficient, well-ordered health care systems that provide high quality care to all citizens.

    Position Overview:

    The project officer; Monitoring and Evaluation will be responsible for the routine project monitoring activities, support ongoing evaluation design, data collection, analysis, reporting and data use for projects under Global Health Security Assessment (GHSA).

    This position will also support data use activities for I-TECH-supported projects.

    Primary Responsibilities

  • Setting up routine data collection systems assessing performance on IPC QI projects e.g. monthly hand hygiene, waste management and injection safety QI projects.
  • This includes:
    design of data collection tools
    revision of data base(s) format(s)
    Analyze and give feedback on above performance data.
  • Support data management and analysis of annual ICAT surveys and any other facility-based surveys.
  • Development of abstracts from above analyses.
    Development of simple analyses technical guides to share with Ministry of Health or sites to promote data demand and information use.
  • Prepare monthly & quarterly reports for review and feedback meetings with CDC and Ministry of Health.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

    Required Education, Training & Experience:
  • Master’s in public health or BSc Public Health with 2 years’ experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the organization and functioning of the Kenyan Public health sector.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience generating indicator reports for any Government of Kenya health program e.g. RH, Immunization or
    HIV.
  • Attention to details and ability to monitor data and analyze reports.
  • Willingness to learn and work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with at least one mobile data collection application will be an advantage
  • Excellent knowledge and skill in Excel and Word are required.
  • Skill and experience in at least one data analysis package e.g. Stata, SPSS or R

    Working Environment
  • This FTE position is based at the I-TECH offices in Nairobi. The Project Officer-M&E requires up 20% travel within Kenya.
  • The position requires frequent participation in early morning and late evening telephone conference calls to accommodate time zone differences.
  • I-TECH operates within a grant-funded environment.
  • Due to this, the total amount of this position’s FTE may fluctuate based on program funding and needs.
