IRC Safety and Security Data Analytics Intern Jobs in Nairobi

The Business Resiliency and Continuity Unit is a new IRC unit responsible for building and capacitating local, regional, and HQ functional teams to properly manage incidents that pose a threat to the IRC. The BR&C unit oversees the Global Safety & Security Teams.

Job Overview/Summary: The Spring Intern for the IPD S&S at the IRC will serve as a key source of support to the Director of International Programs Safety and Security and Regional Safety and Security Advisors at the Nairobi iHub in Kenya .

The Intern will undertake initial stages of a project to design, develop and implement processes and systems for Safety & Security data analytics and reporting. The intern will be under the supervision of the DISS and be mentored, supported by the Great Lakes and Asia RSSA based in Nairobi.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Undertake a project to streamline and improve Safety and Security data collection, collation and reporting from the IPD field to HQ.
  • Develop a stakeholder needs based reporting instrument that reflects a broad range of Safety and Security key performance indicators and incident event occurrence for communication to those key IPD stakeholders.
  • Ensure the data source metrics are formatted in a manner that can feed into the IPD S&S analytics
    page on RescueNet and other reporting formats.
  • Attend topically pertinent Safety and Security events in Nairobi iHub.

    Learning Outcomes:

  • Experience working within an INGO functional team
  • Qualified experience collecting and reporting on data analytics
  • Topical expertise in Business Resiliency and Continuity and Safety and Security
  • Exposure to project management and coordination

    Position Reports to: Director IPD Safety and Security

    Job Requirements:

  • The requirements should establish a baseline (minimum) for educational background, previous work experience, professional knowledge or certification, specific skills and strengths, and any other skill necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Applicants must be a current graduate student studying International Affairs or a similar social science, preferably with concentration or keen interest in security or resiliency.
  • Keen interest and understanding of humanitarian contexts
  • Demonstrated expertise in research, analysis, and formulating succinct reports on findings
  • Effectiveness in bridging practical guidance and conceptual frameworks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with local and remote team members
  • Ability to work independently and with multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellence in oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in English required; Proficiency in French a plus.
  • Working Environment: Standard office work environment in Nairobi, Kenya
