IRC NGO Construction Supervisor Jobs in Lodwar Kenya

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a registered International Organization working in Turkana Kenya to serve vulnerable populations. The IRC currently implements program activities covering WPE, Reproductive Health, Core-Polio, Nutrition, Water and Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in parts of Turkana County Kenya.

Purpose of Assignment

The objective of the sector is to reduce risks of WASH related diseases in households of children’s of under 5 years and PLW (Pregnant Lactating Women) undergoing treatment for malnutrition or at risk of malnutrition by increasing access to safe drinking water, sanitation and promoting safe hygiene practices.

Part of the expected outputs from the interventions includes Construction of gender segregated latrines friendly to disabled users, simple renovation works and upgrading of point-water sources at various outreach sites in IRC’s project areas. In the light of the above, IRC wishes to engaged two Site Supervisors to support the WASH Construction sector in supervision of such works. These terms of reference therefore seeks to detail out the level of engagement that IRC seeks from such candidates.


Responsibilities

Development of plans for supervision of WASH construction works.

Provide technical review of designs and verification of associated costs

Technical support to foremen/technicians on construction works

Ensure construction works are to the agreed designs in line with GoK construction guidelines and policies.

Review and provide inputs to water and sanitation designs for healthcare centers;

Supervision of renovation WASH related works to IRC’s standards

Monitoring of the status of all WASH hardware works

Support

WASH Sector in preparing satisfactory field supervision reports, movement plans, reporting and timely acquittal of funds.

Support in bulk water treatment and disinfection

Support project supervision, monitoring and evaluation.

Support development, planning and implementation of activities aiming at improving sustainability of WASH operation and maintenance of WASH facilities

Any work as may be assigned by the supervisor.


Qualifications

A minimum of Diploma in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Building & Construction, Sanitation Engineering, or a field relevant to WASH-related development with practical experience in on supervision of similar works; conversant with Computer aided design software, use and interpretation.

Technical experience in construction and WASH in the Central Asian context;

Familiarity with community-based WASH sanitation programs, and with a diversity of designs for rural communities;

Language:

Fluency in English required.

Fluency in Swahili required.
