Job Description

  • The Ambulance Driver is responsible for maintaining the vehicle in good condition and perform activities as per the Job description in accordance to the fleet policies and procedures.

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • The physical security of the vehicle.

  • The daily maintenance of vehicles and of any accessories supplied with the vehicle.

  • Ensuring full onboard documentation.

  • Knowing how to use onboard equipment such as 4x4, radios or winches.

  • Knowing how to change a wheel.

  • Completing routine maintenance checks as detailed by the Fleet Assistant.

  • Operating vehicles in a manner maximizing the safety of passengers and of other road users.

  • Ensuring that they undertake only IRC business and transport only IRC-approved personnel.

  • Complying with all local road laws and appropriate customs.

  • Complying with all security directives.

  • Maintaining the vehicle’s log sheet.

  • Ensuring that the vehicle has sufficient fuel.

  • Maintaining the external and internal cleanliness of the vehicle.

  • In order to maximize the working life of IRC vehicles and minimize the risk of breakdown, vehicles must be scrupulously maintained.

  • On a daily basis the driver will conduct a vehicle checklist, inspect and remedy (at minimum) if needed, all engine lubricant, hydraulic, coolant and washer fluid levels, fan belts and fans, rubber hoses, leakages,
    battery, condition, mountings, and connections, fuel, accessories and documentation etc.

  • Prepare a Daily vehicle checklist and submit to the Fleet Assistant.

    Qualifications

  • ‘A’ Level education or its equivalent.

  • Basic mechanical knowledge is a plus.

  • Valid driving license Class; B, CM, DL.

  • Minimum 5 years’ work as a professional driver in INGO or NGO.

  • No road safety-related fines or convictions.

  • Good written and spoken English.

  • Visual Test.

  • Thorough knowledge of road rules and regulations.

  • Good knowledge of the operation and components of vehicle.

  • Safe/defensive driving skills.

  • Skills in routine vehicle maintenance.

  • Knowledge (or ability to quickly learn) of HF, VHF and satellite communications equipment

  • Team spirit and problem-solving abilities

  • Able to carry out limited, un-supervised tasks
