Background and Context

  • The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is committed to ensuring orderly and humane governance of migration, promoting international cooperation on migration issues, and assisting in the search for practical solutions to migration issues.

    Core Functions / Responsibilities

  • Support the Mission’s Public Information Officer during planning, reporting, writing and editing stories about IOM activities.

  • Assist with Capturing, organizing and editing multimedia content such as photos and videos.

  • Support the Public Information Officer with posting, updating and editing content on IOM Uganda’s digital platforms such as the website and Facebook, Twitter, YOUTUBE, Instagram and other platforms.

  • Prepare and follow up on PRFs, payment requests and other documents as may be assigned from time to time.

  • Attend meetings and committees and prepare minutes and reports – as the situation may warrant.

  • Upon assignment, send out, receive and coordinate PIU’s communication with internal and external clients.

  • Make copies, file documents and carry out other clerical work as may be assigned from time to time.

  • Undertake all other tasks as may be assigned.

    Eligibility Requirements

    Applicants to IOM internships must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or

  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.(applicants who graduated since October 2019 will be accepted)

  • All applicants must be between 20 and 36 years of age.

  • Applicants should have a working knowledge (both oral and written) of English.

    Education & Experience

  • Completed or final year of enrolment in bachelor’s degree program in the field of journalism or/and media studies or related fields.

  • Ability to use own initiative and work under pressure with minimum supervision

  • Excellent computer skills
    – Word, Excel and Internet

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Attention to detail and ability to organize
    Self-motivated and objective driven
